Senior Digital Designer (Lead/Director level)

Our client, a digital agency partner, is seeking a Senior Digital Designer (Lead or Director level) to join their team on a freelance/contract basis for immediate start. This is a highly visual, creative-forward role for a designer who operates at the intersection of digital brand, visual design, and product experience — someone with exceptional craft who can take early-stage concepts and UX prototypes and elevate them into distinctive, polished, and inspiring digital experiences. The work spans two high-profile projects across financial services, data and technology, and climate and sustainability. The right candidate is an originator, not just an executor — someone who develops their own ideas, pushes creative quality, and understands the UX thinking behind what they’re designing.

• This is a fully remote, freelance opportunity (Eastern or Central timezone preferred).
• 8 weeks to start with the potential to extend.
• Pay Rate: $80-100/hour

Responsibilities:

• Create highly polished website, web application, and digital product designs from early concepts, UX thinking, and prototypes.
• Originate strong visual and creative ideas, exploring how digital experiences can feel distinctive, ownable, and inspiring across two very different brand contexts.
• Translate high-level UX prototypes and future-facing concepts into compelling, high-fidelity design.
• Help evolve established brand systems for digital, identifying opportunities to push visual expression while staying true to existing brand foundations.
• Develop distinctive approaches to data visualization, information design, and digital storytelling.
• Work confidently across both brand-led websites and complex, data-rich digital products.
• Balance strong visual expression with usability, accessibility, and clear UX principles.
• Collaborate closely with UX, strategy, content, and creative teams while independently driving design work forward.
• Move quickly from exploration through execution, producing high-quality work within fast-paced design sprints.
• Present work directly to clients, articulating creative thinking and rationale behind design decisions with clarity and confidence.
• Shift comfortably between different projects, audiences, and visual systems while maintaining a consistently high standard of craft throughout.

Required Qualifications:

• Senior-level digital designer with an exceptional portfolio demonstrating highly polished, digital-first work — Lead or Director level experience required.
• Strong visual design and digital brand credentials, with excellent typography, composition, art direction, and attention to detail.
• Expert-level Figma proficiency and confidence working with modern digital design and prototyping tools.
• Strong understanding of UX and product design, with the ability to interpret wireframes, prototypes, user needs, and experience principles.
• Proven ability to originate creative direction and develop ideas independently rather than relying on detailed briefs.
• Experience working across both brand expression and complex data-driven or product-focused digital environments.
• Comfortable presenting work to clients and senior stakeholders, with the ability to communicate design rationale clearly and persuasively.
• Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously, adapting quickly to different brand systems and audience contexts.
• Background in financial services, data and technology, sustainability, or similarly complex subject matter is a plus.
