About this organization
Swell is an award-winning creative company working to reimagine social impact. We partner with brands and causes to create meaningful experiences, campaigns, and movements that empower people to create lasting change. Our work addresses complex social issues, including housing and homelessness, climate change, racial inequity, educational opportunity, and immigration reform.
About this job
Swell is seeking a mid-career Production Designer who is passionate about social change and skilled at turning creative direction into polished, effective work. You’ll extend approved creative concepts and brand systems across social media, paid advertising, email, presentations, websites, and campaign materials with craft, speed, quality, and consistency.
This fully remote independent contractor engagement anticipates up to 32 hours per week across four working days at $39–$45/hour, depending on experience and portfolio. Collaboration windows, deadlines, and availability will be agreed upon with Swell.
You’ll collaborate with design leadership, strategists, content creators, client leads, paid-media specialists, and Social Media Coordinators. Swell retains responsibility for creative direction, client account leadership, staff management, and final approvals.
Contractors provide their own computer, software, workspace, and reliable internet connection unless otherwise agreed in writing. This engagement does not include employee benefits, paid time off, or payroll tax withholding. Hours and engagement duration are not guaranteed; final terms will be defined in a written agreement.
Roles & responsibilities
Translate approved creative concepts and brand systems into polished, production-ready assets across digital channels.
Produce static social graphics, paid-media assets, email graphics, presentation materials, and web graphics.
Create templates and light motion or short-form video content.
Resize, version, localize, and adapt assets for different platforms, audiences, placements, and accessibility needs.
Build reusable templates and production systems that improve speed, consistency, and collaboration.
Apply strong judgment in typography, color, composition, hierarchy, image selection, and brand consistency.
Prepare and organize files for internal review, client delivery, publishing, and handoff.
Quality-check assets and export specifications before delivery.
Collaborate with Social Media Coordinators and content teams on planned and as-needed asset requests within the agreed scope.
Coordinate design deliverables across multiple clients, communicate capacity, incorporate feedback, and flag issues affecting delivery or quality.
Stay current on platform specifications, design tools, production practices, and social and digital trends.
Contribute ideas that make Swell’s creative work and production processes more effective, inclusive, and engaging.
Qualifications
Approximately 3–5 years of professional experience in production design, digital design, or a closely related field.
A portfolio demonstrating excellent craft across digital campaigns, social media, paid advertising, and multi-format brand systems.
Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, plus strong working knowledge of Figma.
Strong command of typography, layout, color, composition, image preparation, file setup, and export specifications.
Ability to maintain quality while working efficiently across multiple brands; agency or high-volume studio experience is strongly preferred.
Comfort working independently in a remote environment while remaining communicative, responsive, and collaborative.
Ability to receive creative direction, ask thoughtful questions, incorporate feedback, and flag issues when needed.
Excellent attention to detail and sound production judgment.
Awareness of accessible and inclusive design practices.
Interest in social-impact communications and a connection to Swell’s mission.
Experience with After Effects, Premiere Pro, or comparable motion and video tools is a plus.
Salary
