Software Engineer- Backend

Role & responsibilities

This role is responsible for designing, building, and operating scalable backend services that power Moodys cloud-native SaaS platform.

• Design, develop, and operate critical backend services, APIs, and data processing systems
• Write clean, maintainable, and thoroughly tested code in Java, Python, and/or C#/.NET
• Solve complex technical challenges related to distributed systems, concurrency, and performance at scale
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to translate functional requirements into robust technical designs
• Participate in architectural discussions and code reviews to continuously elevate engineering standards
• Own the full software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support
• Identify opportunities to improve platform architecture and propose practical, scalable solutions
• Promote engineering best practices for scalability, reliability, security, and observability
• Communicate technical decisions and project status clearly to stakeholders and partner teams

Preferred candidate profile

• 35 years of experience in at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as Java, Python, or C#/.NET
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating microservices, data platforms, and data engineering workflows wroking in product based environment highly preferred
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, including scalability, performance, reliability, and fault tolerance principles
• Experience with cloud-native technologies, preferably AWS, including Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with streaming and batch-processing technologies such as Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Apache Spark, and AWS Glue jobs
• Proactive and collaborative mindset with a strong passion for continuous learning and problem-solving

Education

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
