About the Role

We are looking for a Junior Software Engineer with strong programming fundamentals, analytical thinking, and a genuine interest in solving technical problems.

In this role, you will work with a South Africa-based healthcare technology company, contributing to the development and enhancement of complex software applications. You will collaborate with experienced engineers, gain hands-on exposure to proprietary technologies, and strengthen your technical skills through practical experience and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, test, debug, and maintain software applications using Python with knowledge of Java, JavaScript or relevant programming language is a plus.
• Implement software features and enhancements based on clearly defined technical requirements.
• Investigate and resolve bugs with guidance from experienced engineers.
• Write clean, readable, maintainable code following established development standards.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
• Work collaboratively with team members to understand application functionality, data structures, and system workflows.
• Maintain technical documentation and accurately record development activities.
• Communicate progress, challenges, and potential blockers proactively.
• Learn new programming languages, tools, and technologies as required by the project.

Requirements

• Foundational knowledge of Python, with knowledge of Java or JavaScript being a plus.
• Good understanding of object-oriented programming, algorithms, data structures, and software development principles.
• Ability to read, understand, and write programming code.
• Familiarity with debugging, testing, and version control tools such as Git.
• Strong analytical thinking and a structured approach to problem-solving.
• Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• Willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies and adapt to new technical environments.
• Ability to work collaboratively, accept feedback, and take ownership of assigned tasks.

Nice to Have

• Experience with SQL or relational databases.
• Familiarity with REST APIs and backend development.
• Exposure to Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Internship, academic, or personal projects demonstrating practical programming skills.
• Interest in enterprise software, healthcare technology, or complex business applications.
