About BayPath

BayPath Inc. is an engineering firm in the Greater Toronto Area. We provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design and project management services to condominium, commercial, and residential clients. We’re a small team, so roles are broad and everyone works across several areas.

The Role

We’re hiring a Software Engineering Co-op Intern for a 4-month term. The main focus is AI and machine learning, starting with an upcoming ML project. You’ll also work on full-stack development, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps. Priorities will shift with project and business needs.

Responsibilities

Machine Learning & AI

• Prepare, clean, and analyze data, then build, train, and evaluate ML models
• Integrate ML models and LLM-based features into production applications
• Use embeddings and vector databases for search and retrieval

Software Development

• Design, build, and maintain frontend and backend features
• Design database schemas and write efficient queries (PostgreSQL)
• Extend existing and open-source codebases
• Integrate third-party systems through APIs and databases
• Write tests and technical documentation

Cloud & DevOps

• Deploy, monitor, and maintain cloud-hosted applications (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
• Containerize services and manage infrastructure with Docker and infrastructure-as-code tools

General

• Help with requirements gathering, technical research, and solution documentation
• Contribute to other technical work as needed

Requirements

• Enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program
• Foundational knowledge of ML or data analysis from coursework or projects
• Proficiency in Python or JavaScript/TypeScript
• Working knowledge of web development, SQL, Git, and the command line
• Shown ability to learn new technologies quickly and work across technical areas
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently

Nice to Have

• ML/Data: pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, forecasting or regression models, PyTorch or TensorFlow
• AI: LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI), RAG pipelines, AI development tools
• Databases: PostgreSQL, vector databases (pgvector, Pinecone, Qdrant, Weaviate, or Azure AI Search)
• Cloud: Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP; Linux server administration
• DevOps: CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI), Docker, Terraform or Bicep
• Web Frameworks: React/Next.js, PHP/Laravel, Ruby on Rails, or Angular

Pay: $19.00-$21.00 per hour
