Job Description
Stellavise is looking for a talented automation engineer to join our rapidly growing firm and help shape the future of solar design. You will build the tools that produce plan sets for cutting edge solar and BESS projects in the utility scale market, helping to accelerate the growth of renewable energy!
The renewable market is expected to quadruple in size over the next 10 years, and we need to deliver more projects, faster, without sacrificing quality. Put your programming and CAD skills to work on projects that will make an impact on future generations!
Your Mission: Automate the creation of our drawing packages so our engineers can produce clear and correct plan sets for green energy projects faster and with fewer errors.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in Stellavise’s drawing automation initiative, starting with one high-repeat drawing package and expanding across the electrical and civil plan sets
- Develop and maintain AutoCAD automation tools (C#/.NET API, Python, AutoLISP) that generate and update drawings, schedules, title blocks and sheet indexes from project data
- Build and manage the project data source (Excel or database) that serves as the single source of truth for equipment, cable schedules, string counts and project information
- Standardize CAD templates, layers, attributed and dynamic blocks, and sheet set templates so drawings are consistent and automation-ready
- Integrate design data from layout tools such as PVcase and from calculation tools (ETAP, cable sizing, voltage drop) into the drawing workflow
- Automate QA checks such as cable ampacity and voltage drop, string and inverter counts, sheet references and title block consistency
- Automate batch plotting, PDF assembly and revision tracking (AutoCAD Publish, Bluebeam)
- Work closely with electrical and civil engineers and drafters to capture design rules, then train the team on new tools and workflows
- Document tools and maintain version control of scripts and templates
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- At least 2 years of experience in CAD automation, engineering software development, or engineering/design with substantial scripting
- Proficiency in at least one programming language used for CAD automation (C#/.NET, Python, or AutoLISP)
- Advanced AutoCAD experience, including layer control, dimensions and scaling, sheet sets, blocks and attributes, dynamic blocks, xrefs, fields, line weights, plot files and file transmission
- Strong Excel skills (formulas, data structuring); experience with VBA, Power Query or databases is a plus
- Ability to translate engineering design rules into clear, repeatable logic
- Basic knowledge of power systems and familiarity with the NEC, or a strong willingness to learn
- Detail oriented and produces high quality, well-tested work
- Self-directed, efficient, and able to take an initiative from concept to production
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
Preferred:
- Experience with the AutoCAD .NET API or ObjectARX
- Experience with Civil 3D and Dynamo for Civil 3D
- Experience with ezdxf, pyautocad or other DWG/DXF libraries
- Solar, BESS or utility-scale power design experience
- Familiarity with PVcase, ETAP, Bluebeam Revu and Sheet Set Manager
- Experience with Git or other version control
- Engineer-in-Training Certificate or Professional Engineer
