Hands-On Engineering Manager – Data Platform

A leading global commodities trading business is building a new enterprise data platform as part of a major Data and AI transformation. The platform will connect data across trading, risk, finance and operations, creating a trusted foundation for business data products and AI initiatives.

They are looking for Engineering Manager who can lead technical engineers while remaining closely involved in building, deploying and operating the platform.

The Role

• Lead the hands-on development of a large-scale data platform across cloud infrastructure, data engineering and real-time streaming.
• Build and operate production streaming systems using Kafka, Flink or equivalent technologies.
• Own technical decisions across architecture, CI/CD, testing, deployment and production reliability.
• Mentor senior engineers and establish engineering standards while personally contributing to implementation.
• Help shape the platform’s data products and wider architecture.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong hands-on experience building and operating production streaming platforms. This is essential.
• Excellent software engineering and data platform fundamentals.
• Experience across cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and the full development lifecycle.
• Proven technical leadership without moving away from coding.
• Databricks, lakehouse architecture, knowledge graphs and AI-related technologies are advantageous but not essential.
