Job Description

Health Education Assistant

About International Foundation for Autoimmune & Autoinflammatory Arthritis

We are leaders in advancing education, advocacy, and research for those impacted by autoimmune and autoinflammatory arthritis (AiArthritis) diseases through peer-led guidance, collaboration, and resources that are driven by patient-identified issues and patient-infused solutions.

Description

About us

AiArthritis is led by people living with autoimmune and autoinflammatory arthritis (AiArthritis) diseases. Our work is peer-led: we listen to patients, find what is missing from the conversations that shape research, care and policy, and bring patients in to build what closes it. We’re a small, fully remote team, so every role touches the work that reaches the next person living with an AiArthritis disease.

The role

You’ll help build the educational resources and programs that patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals rely on. Working with our Health Education Manager, you’ll turn research, community questions and program insights into clear, evidence-informed materials people can use. Our programs are still growing, so you’ll help shape how this work gets done.

What you’ll do

  • Research health education topics and find credible, evidence-based sources.
  • Write and update guides, handouts, FAQs, presentations and digital resources in plain, patient-friendly language.
  • Apply health literacy and culturally responsive communication principles to everything you create.
  • Prepare presentations, discussion guides and participant materials for virtual and in-person programs.
  • Review community questions, surveys and feedback to find recurring needs and what is missing from current resources.
  • Turn content from conferences, podcasts and webinars into summaries, FAQs and follow-up resources.
  • Test digital education content, including Araiah, our Ai Companion, for clarity and patient relevance.
  • Route content that needs medical or subject-matter expert review before it goes out.
  • Work with editors, medical experts, patient volunteers and partners to get resources finished.

What you bring

Required:

  • Strong research skills, including identifying credible health information and documenting sources
  • Clear writing, especially explaining complex medical or scientific information in plain language
  • Understanding of, or real interest in, health literacy and patient-centered communication
  • Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently in a remote role
  • Comfort learning new tools and platforms (we use Google Workspace and Wrike)

Nice to have:

  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential, or working toward it
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in health education, public health, health communication, community health or a related field
  • Knowledge of health behavior change theories and core health education competencies
  • Experience in patient education, chronic disease education, community health or nonprofit programs

What we offer

  • $23 to $26 an hour, full-time, fully remote, with a flexible schedule
  • $40 per pay period for bringing your own device
  • Generous Paid Time Off
  • This role does not include health insurance this time
  • Resources you help build with patients, for the next person who gets one of these diagnoses

Salary

$23 - $26 per hour
