Job Description

About Sunflower

Sunflower is a YC and a16z-backed addiction recovery platform helping people quit drinking, smoking and other addictive behaviors. Our apps support people in recovery with peer support groups, daily tools and Sam the Bee, our AI recovery companion.

Sunflower Clinic is our telehealth arm. It offers medication management and therapy for people working toward sobriety, including naltrexone for alcohol cravings and varenicline for nicotine cravings. Every Sunflower Clinic prescriber is a physician, and we hold our patient education to the same standard.

The Role

We’re looking for a US-licensed MD psychiatrist to write original, human-written articles for Sunflower and Sunflower Clinic. This is a writing role, not a clinical one: no patients and no prescribing.

We are AI forward and will implement AI editing and research, but we are looking for a candidate who can write by hand. People in recovery deserve real expertise from a real doctor, so every article must be written by you, in your own voice, drawing on your own clinical knowledge and experience.

What You’ll Write About

• Addiction recovery: cravings, relapse, early sobriety, building long-term habits

• Medications for addiction treatment: how naltrexone, varenicline and other medications work, what to expect, and common questions and myths

• Mental health and addiction: anxiety, depression, sleep and stress alongside recovery

• Plain-language explainers of new research for a general audience

What We’re Looking For

• MD with a specialty in psychiatry and an active, unrestricted US medical license

• Board certified or board eligible in psychiatry

• Experience treating substance use disorders (addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine experience a strong plus)

• Clear, warm writing that makes clinical topics easy to understand without talking down to readers

• Comfortable writing in non-stigmatizing, recovery-focused language

• Reliable with deadlines

Compensation and Commitment

• $300 per article

• 3 to 30 articles per month, flexible to your availability

• Freelance / independent contractor

• 100% remote, open to candidates anywhere in the US

Hiring Process

  1. First round interview: a 30-minute video call to get to know you, your clinical background and your interest in writing.

  2. Paid take-home: write one sample article on an assigned addiction recovery topic, paid at our standard $300 rate.

  3. Final interview and assessment: a conversation about your take-home, our editorial standards and how many articles a month you’d like to take on.

To Apply

Send your Resume and email one writing sample to the Head of Growth [email protected].
