Java Backend Engineer (6-Month Contract) – Subscriptions & Payments

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Java Backend Engineer to build and maintain scalable backend services for subscription and payment platforms. You will work on purchase and subscription workflows, payment processing, user entitlements, and highly available distributed systems.

The role involves building reliable microservices that can handle high transaction volumes and sudden traffic spikes while maintaining performance, fault tolerance, and data consistency.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build REST APIs and microservices for subscriptions, payments, and user entitlements.
• Develop workflows for purchases, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and subscription state changes.
• Implement reliable transaction-processing systems using idempotency, retries, reconciliation, and failure-handling mechanisms.
• Build asynchronous and event-driven workflows using Kafka or similar messaging platforms.
• Integrate with external payment providers, app stores, and platform APIs.
• Optimize application performance, latency, throughput, and scalability.
• Improve observability through logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions.

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Familiarity with Redis or other caching technologies.
• Experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems.
• Understanding of transaction management, idempotency, and data consistency.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong debugging and performance-optimization skills.

Experience Requirements

• 4–7 years of backend engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience developing and supporting production-grade Java applications.
• Ability to independently design and deliver reliable backend services.

Contract Details: This is a full-time, 6-month contractual position. The role is remote within India.

Pay: ₹150,000.00 - ₹250,000.00 per month
