About the Company
Mitratech develops software solutions that help organizations manage their Legal, Risk, Compliance, and HR operations. With more than 35 years of experience, the company serves 20,000 client companies worldwide, including 30% of the Fortune 500, and supports over 500,000 users across more than 160 countries.
Mitratech brings together a globally distributed team with a focus on product innovation, collaboration, professional development, and an inclusive workplace culture.
About the Role
Mitratech is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to provide technical leadership for a distributed engineering team building scalable software solutions with integrated AI capabilities. This role will shape system architecture, guide AI strategy, and help establish effective ways to use AI tools throughout the software development process.
You will lead architectural decisions, design AI agents and integrations, and help developers break complex product requirements into manageable engineering tasks. The role also involves mentoring team members, reviewing human- and AI-generated code, and improving development workflows to support reliable, secure, and efficient software delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across the design, development, and deployment of AI-integrated software solutions.
- Design scalable, modular systems and communicate architectural decisions across services and domains.
- Ensure development follows modern architectural principles, including domain-driven design and microservices architecture.
- Architect and build Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, APIs, and AI agents that bring AI capabilities into existing platforms.
- Develop and refine prompts that guide AI tools in generating code, documentation, and tests.
- Use large language model (LLM) tools to automate repetitive development tasks and improve engineering efficiency.
- Translate high-level product goals into clear, actionable tasks suited to both human developers and AI-assisted execution.
- Conduct detailed code reviews of human- and AI-generated code, with attention to performance, security, and correctness.
- Mentor globally distributed developers and encourage the adoption of AI tools, clean coding practices, and modern software design.
- Collaborate with the team to improve build and deployment pipelines through AI-enhanced code reviews and testing processes.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including technical leadership in software design and architecture.
- At least 2 years of experience working with AI/ML models in a production environment.
- Strong background in backend or full-stack development, with experience in Python.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Devin AI, GitHub Copilot, or GPT APIs.
- Strong system design skills, particularly in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agentic AI systems.
- Experience leading distributed engineering teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Exposure to AI agent frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGPT, or AgentCore.
- Experience with domain-driven design (DDD), MCPs, or microservices architecture.
- Experience with vector or graph databases, embeddings, or other LLM infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- A portfolio or examples of previous work demonstrating an interest in AI-driven software development.
- Experience in a fast-paced SaaS or startup environment.
- Knowledge of the HR, Legal, or Risk industries.
