About the Role

SAIC is seeking a Cloud Computing Engineer Principal to support the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in migrating systems and applications to the cloud. This role focuses on designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure within VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC) Azure Government Cloud environments.

The engineer will provide technical leadership, advise customers on cloud architecture, support cloud modernization initiatives, and develop automation solutions for continuous integration and continuous delivery. The position requires extensive Azure expertise, strong documentation skills, and the ability to work independently across complex, large-scale cloud environments.

This is a full-time, 100% remote position based in the United States, with no routine travel required. The role may involve on-call support and operational response when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

• Create data flow diagrams, cloud architecture diagrams, transition diagrams, and high-level designs for cloud infrastructure, applications, and systems.
• Design, develop, deploy, and operate automation solutions supporting continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
• Manage cloud permissions and access controls for applications, storage, and hosted services.
• Design and maintain monitoring capabilities to support performance, security, and compliance with VA and federal policies.
• Provide customer-focused support for product lines and services, including setup, configuration, and provisioning of VAEC environments.
• Support systems and applications running in VAEC Azure Government Cloud environments while meeting VIP development, release, and documentation requirements.
• Apply DevOps principles and CI/CD practices to improve cloud operations and software delivery.
• Prepare cloud security provider documentation and maintain technical records.
• Design cloud-hosted solutions and identify and address cloud-readiness gaps.
• Design, deploy, and manage secure, scalable, highly available Azure infrastructure.
• Establish and govern multi-subscription Azure environments using Management Groups, Azure Policy, and Azure Landing Zones.
• Manage cloud costs through budgeting, FinOps practices, tagging strategies, and resource optimization.
• Develop automation for cloud operations using Python, PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript, or Node.js.
• Implement infrastructure automation using ARM Templates, Ansible, and GitOps methodologies.
• Configure and maintain monitoring, logging, and observability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Azure Activity Log, Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, or comparable tools.
• Optimize cloud performance, availability, resiliency, and resource utilization.
• Implement cloud security controls, including encryption, key management, secrets management, identity management, and access governance.
• Support Azure database services, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Use CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and GitLab CI.
• Support containerized applications and orchestration platforms, including Docker, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Container Apps, and Kubernetes.
• Troubleshoot complex cloud infrastructure, security, networking, and platform issues.
• Lead cloud modernization, migration, and transformation initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and contribute to cloud architecture governance.
• Maintain architecture documentation, operational procedures, security controls, system configurations, and technical processes.
• Manage competing priorities and multiple projects while maintaining delivery quality and meeting deadlines.
• Stay current with Azure technologies, cloud-native architectures, tools, and industry best practices.
