About the Role

Vida is rebuilding its data platform to strengthen patient data protection, improve data governance, and support self-service analytics. The company is seeking an experienced AI/ML Platform Engineer who can contribute across software engineering, data infrastructure, DevOps, security, and machine learning systems.

This hands-on role will help establish the technical foundation for production AI/ML capabilities, including model serving, data pipelines, lifecycle management, and large language model (LLM) integration. You will work closely with platform, security, IT, and DevOps teams to build reliable systems that support innovation while protecting sensitive patient information.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to data ingestion, transformation, canonical data modeling, entity resolution, event infrastructure, configuration as code, and API and serving layers
• Improve DevOps practices through CI/CD, infrastructure as code, environment management, and production observability
• Strengthen monitoring across metrics, logs, traces, and service-level objectives
• Partner with Security and IT to implement data classification, access controls, secrets management, and key management
• Develop the foundation for AI/ML infrastructure, including model serving, inference gateways, feature pipelines, and training data pipelines
• Support model lifecycle management, including model registries, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring
• Integrate large language models with appropriate grounding and guardrails
• Ensure protected health information remains within controlled security boundaries
• Use in-VPC or local inference where required to protect sensitive data
• Prevent data exposure risks when introducing machine learning capabilities
• Work alongside existing team leads to strengthen AI/ML knowledge across platform, security, and DevOps teams
• Establish technical patterns and practices that other teams can adopt
• Take on additional responsibilities as needed

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• 7–10+ years of experience building and scaling production-grade machine learning or AI systems
• Experience as a generalist software engineer across backend development, infrastructure, and data engineering
• Hands-on experience building and deploying production AI/ML systems, including MLOps, model serving, inference infrastructure, feature and data pipelines, and model integration into applications
• Strong cloud platform experience, ideally with Google Cloud services such as Vertex AI, BigQuery, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, and GKE; AWS or Azure equivalents are also welcome
• Experience with CI/CD, Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools, containers, Kubernetes, and production observability
• Strong data engineering skills, including SQL, data pipeline tools such as dbt, and data warehousing
• A security-focused approach and comfort working with sensitive data in regulated environments
• Experience with LLM applications, including retrieval, evaluation, guardrails, and knowledge graphs
• Ability to work through ambiguity, deliver solutions, and contribute across multiple areas of the technology stack

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with entity resolution or master data management
• Experience in healthcare or another regulated data environment
• Experience with GraphQL or a federated serving layer
• Experience with privacy-enhancing technologies
• Familiarity with HIPAA or HITRUST requirements

Salary & Benefits

• Annual salary range: $250,000–$275,000
