About the Role

We are looking for a Senior UX Designer to help us create UI themes and user experiences that strike a balance between aesthetic and utility. We need someone who understands the give and take between making something beautiful and making it functional. The MapLarge software platform handles large amounts of data, and designing UX for data-dense applications presents a unique challenge in guiding users to the most important insights. The ideal candidate has exceptional visual design instincts, experience with industry design software, and the ability to communicate their design choices effectively.

This is a hands-on role that works closely with software engineers and product teams to establish the organization’s design language, create design standards, develop themes and supporting tooling, and continuously improve the usability and visual consistency of our applications.

About MapLarge

Trusted by the world’s most sophisticated organizations, our enterprise platform for geospatial analytics and visualization automates decision intelligence and offers a distinct decision advantage. We build cutting-edge products for large enterprises and government agencies that appreciate innovation. If you enjoy working with talented teammates to solve complex challenges, we’d love for you to join us.

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the organization’s visual design language, ensuring consistency, clarity, and usability across software products.
  • Work directly with users and subject matter experts to understand their needs, define user personas, test concepts, and improve usability.
  • Develop practical design guidelines, style guides, standards, and best practices that enable engineers to create polished, intuitive user interfaces.
  • Create and maintain application themes, layout conventions, typography, color palettes, iconography, and other visual design assets used across the platform.
  • Create reference implementations, and design examples that demonstrate best practices and accelerate adoption by engineering teams.
  • Partner with software engineers to improve the visual quality, consistency, and usability of existing applications.
  • Review application interfaces and provide constructive feedback on visual design, usability, and adherence to established design standards.
  • Champion high standards for visual design and help foster a culture where every engineer can build attractive, consistent, and user-friendly applications.
  • Own product design from user research and workflow definition through wireframes, interactive prototypes, detailed UI design, and implementation review.

Qualifications

  • Must reside in the continental US
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of experience designing user interfaces for commercial software products, with a strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual design and attention to detail.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. with no visa sponsorship required
  • Advanced proficiency with Figma or comparable design and prototyping tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise in visual design principles, including layout, typography, color theory, spacing, iconography, and visual hierarchy.
  • Experience developing and maintaining design systems, visual standards, style guides, or similar resources that improve consistency across multiple applications.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and the ability to balance aesthetics with usability and clarity.
  • Experience collaborating closely with software engineers to translate design concepts into practical, maintainable implementations.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly articulate design decisions and build consensus across cross-functional teams.
  • A passion for craftsmanship and a demonstrated ability to raise the overall quality of software through thoughtful design, practical guidance, and continuous improvement.
