Micro Focus Cobol Developer

Our Client is seeking a Senior a Micro Focus Cobol Consultant to lead large-scale legacy modernization initiatives, migrating enterprise COBOL applications from IBM mainframe environments to Micro Focus technologies. This is a highly technical consulting role focused on solving complex migration challenges, driving modernization strategy, and ensuring successful application re-platforming with minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead modernization and migration of legacy mainframe applications.
• Develop and support solutions using Micro Focus COBOL, Enterprise Developer, Enterprise Server, and Visual COBOL
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex migration, integration, and performance issues.
• Collaborate with architects, business stakeholders, and development teams to deliver modernization objectives.
• Support batch processing, transaction processing, data conversion, and system integrations.
• Conduct impact assessments and recommend modernization approaches for legacy systems.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment planning, and production support.
• Create technical documentation, migration procedures, and operational support materials.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with Micro Focus COBOL, Enterprise Developer, and Enterprise Server.
• Strong expertise with COBOL applications.
• Proven experience leading or supporting mainframe modernization and migration initiatives.
• Experience migrating applications from IBM Mainframe environments to distributed platforms.
• Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with JCL, VSAM, CICS, batch processing, and related mainframe technologies.
• Ability to assess legacy code, identify modernization risks, and implement practical solutions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Greensboro, NC.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $75.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
