Job Description
About Workiva
Workiva provides an AI-powered platform that brings together finance, risk, and sustainability data on a secure foundation. Its solutions help organizations maintain trusted and traceable information, manage risks, and support decisions that meet the needs of executives, boards, and regulators.
About the Role
Workiva is seeking a Principal Product Designer to lead experience strategy for the Workiva Platform. This senior design leadership role focuses on shaping the platform’s long-term user experience, with particular emphasis on AI-powered experiences, systems thinking, and workflow transformation.
You will work at the intersection of UX, product strategy, and platform architecture, helping simplify complex enterprise workflows and define how people interact with AI-enabled products. Working closely with Product and Engineering leadership, you will influence platform direction, establish scalable design patterns, and identify where human judgment and oversight should remain central to AI-driven processes. You will also mentor Lead and Senior Designers and help strengthen design practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
● Define and drive the long-term UX vision for the Workiva Platform, aligning design direction with product strategy, platform architecture, and business goals.
● Lead the design of AI-powered experiences, including generative interfaces, intelligent automation, recommendations, and decision-support workflows.
● Rethink existing workflows to create simpler, faster, and more intuitive experiences for complex enterprise use cases.
● Design human-in-the-loop interactions that support appropriate human oversight, review, escalation, and decision-making in AI-enabled workflows.
● Lead discovery for ambiguous, cross-functional challenges by combining research, product insights, data, and technical constraints to develop scalable solutions.
● Establish reusable design patterns, interaction models, and information architecture across the platform’s multi-product ecosystem.
● Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to influence platform direction, service design, data flows, and technical implementation decisions that affect the user experience.
● Guide the evolution of design systems and governance practices to support consistency, flexibility, and innovation at scale.
● Experiment with new approaches, tools, and processes to improve interface design and product experiences.
● Mentor Lead and Senior Designers, raise design quality standards, and contribute to a strong design culture.
Required Qualifications
● 10+ years of experience in product design, UX, or a related field, with significant experience working on platform or enterprise products.
● Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field, or an alternative qualification pathway of a master’s degree with eight years of experience or a PhD with six years of experience.
● A track record of delivering products from 0 to 1 and scaling them in the market.
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience influencing product strategy, experience direction, and technical decision-making.
● Experience establishing UX best practices for emerging technologies or ambiguous problem spaces.
● A demonstrated record of driving user interface innovation through experimentation, new tools and processes, and collaboration with design, engineering, data science, and research teams.
● Experience with AI/ML and agentic technologies, with the knowledge to develop and explore creative solutions.
● Deep knowledge of user-centered design methodologies applied to enterprise workflows.
● Experience designing AI-powered product experiences and human-in-the-loop workflows.
● Experience using AI in the design process for discovery, prototyping, and synthesis.
● Strong technical understanding of platform ecosystems, APIs, and design systems.
● Experience working in large-scale Agile environments.
