Job Description
Location: Remote (US). Must be available from 9:00 AM ET.
About The Company Our client is one of the largest healthcare organizations in the U.S., serving millions of members across pharmacy, insurance, and care delivery. The Care Management AI engineering team builds AI-powered products that reduce administrative work for nurses so they can spend more time delivering personalized care.
Job Summary We’re looking for a senior full stack AI engineer to help build distributed LLM systems that run in production for hundreds of users. You will own your work end to end: gathering requirements from the business, designing the architecture, and building it. The team has no separate architecture group, so you will partner directly with stakeholders and turn business context into sound technical designs. Both front end and back end work are part of the role, with the heaviest emphasis on AI engineering on the back end, including production-grade integrations and distributed systems. The stack is predominantly Python and SQL.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate production LLM applications and the distributed back-end systems and integrations behind them
- Own solution design and architecture decisions for your features, from requirements through deployment
- Develop back-end services and APIs in Python, and write and optimize SQL against large data sets
- Build and maintain front-end applications in React and JavaScript
- Partner with business and product stakeholders to turn requirements into technical designs
- Use agentic coding tools such as Claude Code as a core part of your daily work, critically evaluating their output to confirm it solves the actual problem
- Communicate progress, tradeoffs, and technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong Python and SQL, with Python as your primary language
- Strong back-end engineering experience, plus hands-on front-end experience with React and JavaScript
- LLM applications built and run in production at scale (proof-of-concept or prototype-only work does not meet this bar)
- A track record of owning design and architecture as a full stack engineer, not just building to requirements someone else wrote
- Daily use of agentic coding tools, with the judgment to review, challenge, and correct AI-generated code rather than accept it as is
- Structured problem-solving: you ask clarifying questions, define the problem, and break it into workable pieces
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills and strong business sense
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI evaluation, such as validating model performance and designing feedback loops
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience, especially BigQuery (AWS or Azure also translates well)
- MongoDB experience
- Healthcare industry experience
Benefits
- Fully remote
- Long-term engagement, with work planned well into 2027
- High-visibility work on a fast-growing, mission-driven team
- Opportunity to work with cutting-edge AI development tools
