Instructional Designer/Training Content Specialist

Job Overview

We are seeking an Instructional Designer to support a Financial Planning team on a short-term contract engagement. This role will focus heavily on creating, organizing, and enhancing training content and educational resources for financial advisors and other field-based audiences.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in instructional design, content development, and visual presentation design , along with the ability to work directly with subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate complex information into clear, professional, and engaging materials.

This individual should be highly proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word and comfortable using design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud/Illustrator . Candidates should be prepared to provide examples or a portfolio demonstrating the quality of their previous work.

Financial planning or broader financial services experience is a strong plus, but the ability to create polished training content and communicate effectively with SMEs is most important.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and enhance training, educational, and professional development content for financial advisors and other field audiences
• Develop polished and engaging PowerPoint presentations, training materials, job aids, guides, and other educational resources
• Partner directly with subject matter experts to gather information and translate complex concepts into clear, easy-to-understand content
• Organize and structure information to improve the overall learning experience
• Edit and refine existing materials for clarity, consistency, accuracy, and visual appeal
• Incorporate visual design elements using tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud/Illustrator
• Ensure materials maintain a professional, consistent look and feel
• Manage multiple content-development projects and deadlines within a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

• Experience in instructional design, training content development, learning and development, or a related field
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word
• Experience creating professional training, educational, or business content
• Experience working with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop or refine content
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with Canva
• Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud , particularly Illustrator
• Strong attention to detail and visual presentation
• Ability to take complex or technical information and make it understandable and engaging for the intended audience
• Portfolio or previous work samples demonstrating training, presentation, or educational content development

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within financial services, financial planning, wealth management, banking, insurance, or a related industry
• Experience developing content for financial advisors or other professional audiences
• Experience creating visually polished executive or client-facing presentations
• Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design best practices
