Job Description
Audit Manager / Senior Manager – Banking & Lending
Competitive salary + benefits
London Hybrid workingI’m working with a leading Top 10 accountancy and advisory firm that is continuing to invest heavily in its Financial Services audit offering and is looking to appoint an Audit Manager or Senior Manager into its specialist Banking & Lending team.
Importantly, the firm is flexible on level. An experienced Manager with the right sector and IFRS 9 expertise can be promoted on hire into a Senior Manager position rather than having to join at their existing grade and wait for the next promotion cycle.
This is a particularly strong opportunity for someone with banking, lending or consumer finance audit experience who wants to become a recognised specialist in a growing service line, while retaining a clear route towards Director and Partner.
The Role
You will manage a portfolio of regulated and unregulated lending clients, leading complex statutory audits with a particular focus on IFRS 9 and expected credit losses.
The portfolio covers businesses across banking, building societies and lending, including exposure to products such as mortgages, personal loans, credit cards and consumer finance.
Alongside client delivery, you will have genuine involvement in developing the firm’s technical capability, audit methodology, people and wider market presence.
Responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of banking and lending audit clients
- Leading statutory audits from planning through to completion
- Reviewing IFRS 9 expected credit loss models and associated audit work
- Managing complex technical audit matters and liaising with senior client stakeholders
- Presenting at Audit Committees and Board meetings
- Managing engagement teams, budgets, deadlines and audit quality
- Coaching, developing and line managing junior team members
- Supporting recruitment and sector-specific training
- Working with national technical teams to develop IFRS 9 audit methodology
- Supporting business development, proposals, scoping and pitches
- Building long-term relationships across the banking and lending market
- Contributing to the strategic growth of the service line
What They’re Looking For
The firm is keen to speak with technically strong Financial Services auditors who understand the lending market and can combine specialist knowledge with strong leadership and client skills.
You will ideally have:
- ACA, ACCA, CA or equivalent qualification
- Strong Audit Manager or Senior Manager-level experience
- Banking, lending, commercial finance or retail finance audit experience
- Strong IFRS 9 knowledge, particularly expected credit losses
- Practical experience auditing ECL models
- Exposure to lending products such as mortgages, personal loans, credit cards or consumer finance
- Experience leading complex audit assignments and teams
- Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills
- Confidence presenting to senior management, Audit Committees and Boards
- Strong project management and commercial awareness
- An interest in developing technical methodology, people and the wider service line
Why Apply?
This is more than a portfolio management role. The firm is actively growing its Banking & Lending audit business and wants people who can help shape that growth.
For the right individual, there is flexibility to recognise experience immediately – including bringing an experienced Manager in at Senior Manager level.
The package includes:
- Competitive salary + benefits
- Manager or Senior Manager level depending on experience
- Potential promotion on hire for the right candidate
- Hybrid working across the London office and client sites
- 27 days’ holiday with the option to purchase additional days
- Flexible benefits and wellbeing package
- Electric car scheme
- Virtual GP access
- Extensive technical and professional development resources
- Clear progression towards Director and Partner
- Opportunity to become a recognised specialist in Banking, Lending and IFRS 9 audit
This would suit an ambitious Financial Services Audit Manager or Senior Manager who wants technical depth, genuine leadership responsibility and the opportunity to help build a growing specialist audit offering rather than simply inherit another portfolio.
