Job Description
Back-End Software Developer
Company: Asula Geospatial
Location: Remote (United States)
Job Type: Full-time
The Role
Every road, utility pole, and street sign in a city can be captured in a single LiDAR scan, but turning billions of points into usable data is still slow, manual work. At Asula Geospatial, we’re building the software to automate it, and we’re looking for a back-end engineer to design its foundation from the ground up.
This is a greenfield role. You’ll own the server side of a brand-new application: how data is stored, secured, processed, and served. You’ll work closely with front-end developers on a small development team, and the decisions you make will shape the product’s architecture for years to come.
About Asula Geospatial
We’re a team of fewer than 25 people providing accurate, timely data extraction from mobile LiDAR and imagery for customers in transportation, telecommunications, and smart cities. We’re small enough that your work is visible every day and your voice carries real weight in technical decisions.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build the back end of a new application that automates feature extraction from LiDAR point cloud data
- Own data storage, security, and server-side functions end to end
- Set up the development pipeline, including version control, testing, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring, the way you think it should be done
- Build and maintain the APIs the front-end team builds on
- Prototype quickly, show your work, and iterate on new features
- Find and fix performance bottlenecks so the application stays fast as data volumes grow
- Help shape the team’s architecture, design, and code review practices
What You Bring
- Solid experience building back-end systems, including deploying servers and implementing storage solutions
- Strong programming skills in C#, Python, Java, PHP, or a similar language
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or SQL Server
- Experience building APIs and running systems in AWS or another cloud environment
- Comfort working independently on a small, remote team, with reliable internet from within the United States
Nice to Have
- Experience with LiDAR point cloud data (.las, .laz) or high-resolution panoramic imagery
- Experience with scalable distributed systems, on-premises and in the cloud
- Unity development experience
- Experience building high-performance web applications, or familiarity with front-end development
- AI/ML experience, especially in object detection and labeling
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
You don’t need to check every box. If this role excites you, we’d like to hear from you.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with employer matching
- Paid time off
- Fully remote work from anywhere in the United States
- The chance to build a product from scratch and see your work used in the field
