About The Role Searchability is seeking an experienced Contract Platform / DevOps Engineer – AWS to join an established engineering team supporting major UK Government digital projects. This fully remote contract role is designed for a cloud and infrastructure professional with strong hands-on experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Terraform, automation, and modern DevOps practices.

You will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing cloud infrastructure that supports secure and highly available digital services. Working closely with software developers, platform engineers, security specialists, and other technical stakeholders, you will help automate infrastructure provisioning, improve CI/CD pipelines, and establish reliable deployment processes.

The position requires a strong understanding of cloud architecture, infrastructure as code, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational resilience. You will also contribute to the development of repeatable infrastructure patterns and engineering standards that improve consistency, scalability, and security across environments.

As part of a knowledgeable technical team, you will help identify opportunities to streamline infrastructure management, reduce manual intervention, and improve the performance and reliability of production systems.

The engagement is expected to run for 12 months, with a day rate of £550 inside IR35. The role is fully remote and offers the opportunity to contribute to substantial public sector digital initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• AWS Infrastructure Engineering: Design, deploy, configure, and maintain secure and scalable cloud infrastructure using AWS services and established cloud engineering practices.
• Infrastructure as Code: Develop and maintain Terraform configurations and reusable modules to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
• CI/CD Automation: Build, maintain, and optimize continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines to support reliable application releases and infrastructure changes.
• Platform Engineering: Develop reusable platform components, automation tools, and infrastructure patterns that enable development teams to deploy and operate applications efficiently.
• Cloud Security: Implement security best practices across cloud environments, including identity and access management, network security, encryption, and secure configuration.
• High Availability and Resilience: Design and maintain resilient infrastructure that supports service availability, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, and business continuity requirements.
• Monitoring and Observability: Configure and improve monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions to identify issues and maintain operational visibility.
• Troubleshooting and Incident Response: Investigate infrastructure failures, deployment issues, performance bottlenecks, and production incidents, implementing effective corrective actions.
• Automation and Scripting: Develop scripts and automation solutions using suitable programming or scripting languages to reduce repetitive operational tasks.
