Job Description
A well-established European streaming technology business is investing heavily in the platform its editorial teams use to curate what viewers see — homepages, collections, rails and content pages across every device they support.
Today, too much of that curation is manual, and the configuration behind it lives in files rather than APIs. We’re hiring the Go engineer who will lead the backend work that changes that.
What you’ll own:
- Domain APIs in Go for editorial lists and content pages, consumed by an internal editorial tool and by customer-facing applications
- Contract-first REST and OpenAPI design across several consuming teams
- The block and entity model behind composable editorial pages — flexible enough to serve different surfaces, strict enough to validate
- Moving configuration out of files and into APIs, so editors change things at runtime instead of waiting for a deployment
- Backend-for-Frontend layout, shaping payloads per surface without over-fetching
- CDN caching and invalidation on very high-traffic catalogue data
- Fine-grained permissions with OpenFGA — who can edit, approve and publish what
- Docker, GitHub Actions, contract testing and performance testing
- Technical leadership: breaking down a committed roadmap, design reviews, mentoring, and working closely alongside the client’s own engineering teams
What we’re looking for:
- Strong commercial Go, with real ownership of backend architecture
- API design maturity — you’ve governed a contract that other teams depended on
- Experience with high-traffic, read-heavy, cached systems
- Authorisation modelling (OpenFGA or similar fine-grained/ReBAC systems) is a strong plus
- Someone who has led a backend team without needing formal authority to do it
One thing that will set you apart
This client isn’t impressed by “I use AI tooling” — almost every candidate says that. They’re looking for engineers who have put autonomous workflows into production: agents that detect and act without a human in the loop, with real guardrails and a human gate in the right place. If you’ve built that, lead with it.
