Job Description
Senior DevOps Engineer
Type: Permanent
Salary: £55,000-£65,000 + benefits
Location: Wilmslow (remote-first, two office visits per month)
We’ve partnered with an established, fast-growing technology business that is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to own major infrastructure projects as it scales across multiple regions. The business delivers services to some of the world’s best-known brands, and does it entirely in-house, on its own technology platform. You’ll report to the Head of Delivery and Head of Architecture and join an existing Senior DevOps Engineer.
You’ll also play a key part in growing the DevOps function. This is an individual contributor role with real autonomy. You’ll be trusted to make technical decisions, deliver projects independently and see your impact across the business.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of infrastructure projects end to end, from requirements and design through to delivery, documentation and support
- Shape the AWS architecture alongside the Head of Architecture, making it secure, resilient, scalable and cost-effective across multiple markets
- Own and evolve the CloudFormation estate, setting the patterns and standards for infrastructure as code
- Design and improve CI/CD pipelines so developers can release quickly and confidently
- Strengthen IAM, network security, WAF, backups and disaster recovery in a regulated (FCA, GDPR) environment
- Improve monitoring, alerting and logging, and lead incident investigations and root-cause analysis
- Identify and deliver cost and performance optimisation across AWS
- Mentor engineers, share knowledge across development and QA, and help shape future DevOps hires
Skills & Experience
- Significant DevOps, cloud infrastructure or platform engineering experience, including time at a senior level
- Deep hands-on AWS expertise (EC2, VPC, IAM, RDS, S3, WAF, CloudWatch, load balancing) and experience designing AWS architectures, not just maintaining them
- Strong infrastructure-as-code experience, ideally CloudFormation (Terraform or CDK also welcome)
- A track record of building and improving CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
- Strong Linux administration, troubleshooting and scripting skills (Bash, Python)
- In-depth knowledge of networking, security, monitoring and disaster recovery in production
- Proven ability to deliver projects independently, plan your own work and see things through
- A pragmatic mindset that values simple, reliable solutions over unnecessary complexity
- Nice to have: containers (Docker, ECS, EKS), regulated-environment experience, mentoring
