Job Description
We are seeking an experienced RF/MMIC Design Engineer supporting the development of advanced microwave and superconducting computing technologies.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience designing RF Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) , with particular emphasis on large-scale resonator circuits operating around 30 GHz .
This engineer will be responsible for RF circuit design, electromagnetic simulation, optimization, and layout support for complex microwave resonator networks. The role requires a strong understanding of high-frequency circuit behavior, resonant structures, coupling mechanisms, and parasitic effects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, simulate, and optimize RF/MMIC circuits operating at approximately 30 GHz.
- Develop complex, large-scale microwave resonator circuits and coupled resonator networks.
- Perform RF circuit design and electromagnetic modeling using industry-standard EDA tools.
- Analyze resonator characteristics, including resonant frequency, quality factor (Q), coupling coefficients, bandwidth, insertion loss, and impedance matching.
- Design and optimize distributed microwave structures, transmission lines, resonators, filters, and passive RF networks.
- Perform full-wave electromagnetic simulations to evaluate parasitic coupling, electromagnetic interactions, and signal integrity.
- Support RF IC layout, parasitic extraction, design verification, and tapeout preparation.
- Collaborate with device physicists, IC designers, layout engineers, and test teams to optimize circuit performance.
- Analyze simulation and measurement results, troubleshoot performance discrepancies, and recommend design improvements.
- Support RF circuit integration into larger semiconductor or superconducting computing architectures.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of hands-on RF, microwave, or MMIC design experience preferred.
- Strong experience designing MMICs or integrated microwave circuits at 30 GHz or higher.
- Direct experience designing resonator circuits, coupled resonator structures, or large-scale microwave resonator networks.
- Strong knowledge of microwave circuit theory, transmission lines, impedance matching, S-parameters, and electromagnetic coupling.
- Hands-on experience with RF/microwave design and simulation tools such as:
- Keysight ADS
- Ansys HFSS
- Cadence AWR Microwave Office
- CST Microwave Studio
- Cadence Virtuoso / Spectre RF
- Experience with EM/circuit co-simulation and layout-dependent RF parasitic effects.
- Experience taking RF/MMIC designs through simulation, physical implementation, and hardware validation.
- Ability to work independently on complex RF design challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with superconducting microwave circuits or cryogenic RF systems.
- Experience with high-Q resonators, resonator arrays, and strongly coupled microwave structures.
- Knowledge of Josephson junction-based circuits or superconducting electronics.
- Experience with RF circuit design for cryogenic temperatures near 4 Kelvin.
- Experience with advanced semiconductor fabrication processes and RF IC tapeouts.
- Familiarity with Python or MATLAB for RF modeling, analysis, and automation.
- Experience characterizing microwave circuits using vector network analyzers (VNAs) and other RF test equipment.
Skills
