You’ll sit within the Rate Management team and keep the engine running on business rates administration and client delivery. That means checking and processing demands, staying on top of liabilities, keeping records clean, and making sure clients get accurate, timely work every time. - Processing and reviewing business rates and BID demands, with accurate recording of liabilities, reliefs and billing info
- Liaising with billing authorities on liabilities, queries, disputes and notices
- Keeping the rates databases, client records and quality control systems accurate and up to date
- Helping with funding requests, payment schedules, remittances, refund tracking and reconciliation
- Running data cleansing, reconciliation and reporting work in Excel and internal systems
- Supporting junior colleagues on process, billing authority queries, reliefs and liability issues
- Contributing to team training, process improvement and the usual team meetings
- Spotting savings opportunities, compliance risks and ways to add value for clients
- Attending the occasional client site visit or meeting
What you’ll need:
- Ideally at least 2 years in business rates, local authority revenues, property administration or client accounting
- A solid understanding of rates demands, billing authority processes, liability records, reliefs, exemptions, credits and refunds. This experience can be gained from a private practice or a local council.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to review financial and property data accurately
- A confident communicator who can hold their own with clients, billing authorities and colleagues
- Good organisation, and the ability to juggle competing deadlines across multiple client instructions
- Comfortable in Excel, Outlook, Teams and case management systems
- A proactive, collaborative approach and a willingness to learn
