Senior AWS Cloud Architect - Remote - Contractor in USD

We are looking for a Senior AWS Cloud Architect to design, implement, secure and optimize AWS cloud infrastructure. You will work with AWS CloudFormation, Docker, CI/CD and cloud security , combining hands-on cloud architecture with DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and software development practices.

The role involves operating production AWS environments, improving infrastructure reliability and automation and using AI-assisted development tools to increase engineering efficiency.

Remote (Offshore) – Geneva working hours – Travel to Geneva when required – Fluent English

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Design, implement and operate secure, scalable AWS cloud infrastructure , including multi-account environments;
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CloudFormation;
• Implement cloud security, networking, identity management, encryption and cost optimization best practices;
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines , containerized deployments and infrastructure automation;
• Apply SRE practices , including observability, service level objectives (SLOs), incident management and resilience engineering;
• Implement monitoring, logging, alerting and dashboards using Amazon CloudWatch ;
• Improve infrastructure availability through backup and restore strategies, disaster recovery and continuous performance optimization;
• Collaborate with development and operations teams, using scripting and AI-assisted engineering tools to improve delivery efficiency.

Profile

• 10+ years of IT experience , including at least 5 years designing and operating production AWS environments ;
• Strong hands-on AWS architecture experience, including IAM, VPC, EC2, S3, CloudFront, Route 53, Lambda, API Gateway, ECS/Fargate, RDS/Aurora and DynamoDB ;
• Experience with AWS CloudFormation , infrastructure automation and multi-account AWS environments;
• Knowledge of AWS CloudWatch, KMS and Secrets Manager , including monitoring, security and access management;
• Experience with Docker, Git, CI/CD pipelines, Linux and DevOps practices ;
• Understanding of SRE principles , observability, incident management, resilience, backup and disaster recovery;
• Software development experience with at least one of Python, TypeScript/Node.js or Java ;
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools , such as GitHub Copilot or similar AI coding assistants;
• Strong communication skills in written and spoken English , attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team.

Experience with AWS CDK, Terraform, serverless integration services, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana or cloud resilience tools would be an advantage.

Additional experience with PostgreSQL, Aurora, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, Java/Angular/Node.js applications , security scanning tools or Agile environments would be beneficial. AWS cloud or DevOps certifications are also valued.
