Turnaround: Some projects may require delivery within approximately two weeks of kickoff

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Residential Plumbing Designer / Plumbing Design & Drafting Specialist to support residential construction projects in the United States, primarily involving detached homes in California.

The role involves developing plumbing designs and producing accurate, construction-ready plumbing drawings in accordance with applicable project requirements and California Title 24-related requirements, as applicable to the plumbing scope. The selected candidate will work closely with the project management team and coordinate with other disciplines to ensure design consistency, drawing quality, and timely delivery.

This opportunity is suited to a detail-oriented professional who can independently manage plumbing design and drafting tasks while following established project standards, templates, and review processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop residential plumbing designs and prepare detailed, construction-ready plumbing drawings.
  • Prepare plumbing layouts and drawing sets based on architectural plans, structural information, project scope, and applicable design requirements.
  • Produce accurate DWG files and PDF drawing sets suitable for internal peer review and professional engineering review.
  • Support projects through the 60%, 90%, and 100% design submission stages.
  • Review architectural and structural drawings to identify potential conflicts, design constraints, and coordination requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, structural designers, wet utility designers, dry utility designers, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Incorporate review comments and make revisions to drawings at each design stage.
  • Maintain consistency in drafting standards, drawing presentation, and design quality across multiple projects.
  • Follow project-specific templates, CAD standards, and established workflows.
  • Communicate progress, technical queries, potential delays, and design issues proactively.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve templates, standardize recurring design elements, and streamline production workflows.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience in plumbing design and drafting for residential buildings.
  • Strong understanding of residential plumbing layouts, piping systems, fixture connections, and construction documentation.
  • Experience preparing detailed plumbing drawings suitable for construction and subsequent engineering review.
  • Familiarity with U.S. residential construction practices and applicable plumbing codes and standards.
  • Working knowledge of California residential project requirements, including relevant Title 24 provisions where applicable to the assigned scope.
  • Ability to interpret architectural plans, structural drawings, and project specifications.
  • Experience coordinating plumbing designs with other building disciplines.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD-based drafting and preparation of DWG deliverables.
  • High attention to detail, drawing accuracy, and consistency.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, respond to review comments, and maintain clear communication with the project team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on California residential projects.
  • Experience with detached single-family homes and multifamily residential developments, including four-unit residential projects.
  • Proficiency in BricsCAD or experience with AutoCAD and other DWG-compatible CAD platforms.
  • Experience working with standardized CAD templates, layer conventions, and production workflows.
  • Familiarity with staged design submissions and coordination-led review processes.
  • Ability to handle projects with non-standard layouts and resolve routine design coordination issues independently.

Software Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, BricsCAD, or a comparable DWG-compatible CAD platform.
  • Ability to produce clean, organized, and editable DWG drawings.
  • Willingness to work with client-provided templates, drafting standards, and evolving workflows.

Experience with BricsCAD is advantageous but not mandatory for candidates with strong CAD skills and the ability to adapt to the required platform.
