Job Description
A rare opportunity for a well-connected on-trade salesperson to open new doors, particularly with restaurant groups, with a portfolio of family growers and iconic properties behind them.
Field-based, out with customers most of the week, with regular time with the team in our London office.
Competitive salary dependent on experience plus performance-related bonus, and support with your WSET studies.
About Us
Thorman Hunt was founded in 1978 and is still family-owned. We are a specialist wine shipper supplying the finest restaurants, hotels and trade professionals in London and across the UK.
Our portfolio runs from small family domaines we have known for generations to some of the most sought-after names in wine, including Harlan Estate, Vieux Télégraphe, Veuve Fourny, Christian Moreau, Lyrarakis and Quinta de la Rosa.
You will find our wines in London’s grand hotels, private members’ clubs, landmark restaurants and much-loved neighbourhood favourites.
We are a small, close team with a big reputation, heading towards our 50th anniversary in 2028.
There are no layers here. Decisions are made quickly, by people who know your accounts, and your wins are seen.
Role
The Account Manager grows our presence across the London on-trade, opening new accounts, with a particular focus on restaurant groups, and looking after existing customers for the long term.
Reporting to Simon Thorpe MW, Managing Director, the role combines new business with careful account management. Depending on your experience, it can range from senior account management to business development, and we will shape it around the right person.
Responsibilities
Opening new on-trade accounts across London.
Winning listings, on the list and by the glass, and turning them into lasting relationships.
Looking after existing accounts, some of whom have been with us for many years.
Building a named pipeline of prospects and talking it through with the team at our sales meetings.
Bringing our growers to life for your customers, including hosting them when they are in London.
Keeping a sensible eye on pricing and margin, and sharing what is happening in your accounts.
Representing Thorman Hunt at tastings and trade events.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
A strong network across the London on-trade, including restaurant groups.
A proven track record of opening accounts and looking after them over time.
Genuine wine knowledge, with WSET Level 3 or above.
Good commercial sense on pricing and margin.
The drive to organise your own week and be out with your customers.
Desirable
A sommelier or group wine-buying background.
The WSET Diploma, or working towards it.
French or Italian speaking is an asset.
What Success Looks Like
In your first year:
New doors opened: restaurant groups and new names you have brought to us, with our wines on their lists.
Listings you are proud of, on the list and by the glass, in the places you most want to see them.
A book of your own, built from accounts you have opened as well as those you look after.
The first call: the buyers and sommeliers you work with think of Thorman Hunt first.
