Job Description
Elementary Curriculum Consultant — Textbook Review
About the project
We are developing a series of Islamic studies books for elementary school children and are seeking an experienced curriculum specialist to review and strengthen our first drafts.
No Islamic knowledge or religious expertise is required. Your responsibility will be to evaluate the books’ educational quality, age appropriateness, and effectiveness. Reviewing the accuracy of Islamic information is outside this role’s scope.
What you will do
- Evaluate whether the language, concepts, reading demands, and activities are appropriate for each elementary grade.
- Review learning objectives, lesson structure, sequencing, and progression within and across grades.
- Assess whether lessons are engaging, culturally appropriate, and connected to children’s everyday lives.
- Evaluate activities and assessments for clarity, practicality, and their ability to support and check understanding.
- Provide detailed written feedback with specific examples, prioritized recommendations, and suggested revisions where needed.
Essential experience
- Substantial, demonstrable experience developing, reviewing, or substantially revising elementary school textbooks or curricula.
- Strong understanding of child development, elementary teaching, and evidence-informed curriculum design.
- Experience assessing complete lessons and units, including instructional text, illustrations, activities, and assessments.
- Ability to translate critical feedback into clear, practical improvements.
Elementary classroom teaching experience is highly desirable. However, teaching experience or academic qualifications alone will not meet our requirements without direct experience in elementary curriculum development or review.
How to apply
Please submit your résumé and a brief description of relevant projects, including the grade levels, materials or publications, and your exact responsibilities. Where possible, include an anonymized sample of your review work or examples of materials you have developed.
This is a paid, project-based assignment. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to complete a brief, unpaid sample review of approximately 20 pages to assess alignment before the full assignment is agreed.
Pay: $40.00 - $75.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15.0 – 30.0 per week
Application Question(s):
