Position is for an Instructional Designer OR Senior Instructional Designer

Position Summary

The Sr. Instructional Designer is responsible for the design, development, and ongoing improvement of learning programs and training content that support organizational and workforce capability needs. The primary focus of this position is the creation of new training programs and the review and modernization of existing learning content.

This position applies instructional design principles and adult learning methodologies to translate business, technical, and operational requirements into structured and effective learning solutions. The Sr. Instructional Designer works closely with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to ensure training content is accurate, relevant, practical, and aligned with the needs of the organization and the energy industry.

The role requires a strong degree of independence and ownership. The Sr. Instructional Designer is expected to manage multiple learning initiatives simultaneously, establish and maintain project plans and priorities, coordinate content development and review activities, and drive work through completion with limited oversight.

Primary Responsibilities

· Design and develop new training programs based on identified business, workforce, and performance needs.

· Review, revise, and modernize existing training programs and learning materials to improve accuracy, relevance, consistency, and effectiveness.

· Apply instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and appropriate learning methodologies throughout the development process.

· Develop learning objectives, course structures, instructional content, assessments, facilitator materials, job aids, and other learning resources.

· Translate complex technical, operational, and business information into clear, structured, learner-focused content.

· Partner with subject matter experts to gather, validate, and organize technical and industry-specific information.

· Ensure training content reflects appropriate energy industry terminology, practices, processes, and operating context.

· Determine appropriate learning approaches and delivery methods based on the audience, subject matter, and desired performance outcomes.

· Establish and maintain standards, templates, and processes for training content development and maintenance.

· Manage multiple learning development projects, including project plans, timelines, stakeholder reviews, approvals, and deliverables.

· Maintain organized training documentation, source materials, content inventories, and version control.

· Establish processes for the periodic review and maintenance of existing learning content.

· Evaluate the effectiveness of learning programs and use feedback, assessment results, and stakeholder input to identify opportunities for improvement.

· Independently identify issues, establish priorities, and drive learning initiatives from initial need through implementation.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

· Demonstrated knowledge of the energy industry, including an understanding of industry terminology, operations, business processes, and/or technical environments.

· Strong knowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and learning development methodologies.

· Demonstrated experience designing and developing training programs from initial concept through implementation.

· Experience evaluating, revising, and modernizing existing training content.

· Ability to synthesize complex technical or operational information and translate it into clear and effective learning content.

· Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines simultaneously.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of work with limited direction.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to content quality and accuracy.

· Ability to establish productive working relationships with technical subject matter experts, business leaders, and other stakeholders.

· Ability to facilitate in-person or virtual training, content-development discussions, resolve conflicting input, and move stakeholders toward decisions.

· Proficiency with learning technologies, eLearning development tools, and learning management systems appropriate to the organization.
