Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Developer Experience based in Canada.

Join an innovative engineering team redefining how software is designed, developed, reviewed, and shipped through AI-powered workflows. In this staff-level role, you will help build an internal software development platform that empowers engineers and non-engineers to turn ideas into working solutions more efficiently. You will connect AI coding agents, automated code reviews, CI systems, evaluation frameworks, and scalable compute infrastructure into a cohesive developer experience. Your work will improve development speed, system reliability, usability, and operational efficiency across the organization. You will also shape the future of agentic software development, helping teams automate complex tasks and focus on higher-impact engineering challenges. This is an opportunity to set technical direction, influence engineering practices across teams, and build tools that multiply the impact of every contributor.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and evolution of an internal developer platform that enables engineers and non-engineers to describe desired outcomes and rely on automated systems to execute development workflows.
  • Integrate AI coding tools, virtualized environments, continuous integration pipelines, AI-powered code reviewers, evaluation systems, and prompt and model optimization into a cohesive, reliable, and intuitive platform.
  • Improve the usability, performance, latency, and cost efficiency of existing development systems, defining meaningful success metrics and using real-world usage data and engineering feedback to guide continuous improvement.
  • Advance the adoption of agentic software development across the software development lifecycle, including code review, deployment, monitoring, debugging, and other workflows that reduce manual execution overhead.
  • Build and evolve an agent platform that allows teams to create and deploy specialized agents with appropriate access to internal tools and information, supporting use cases such as incident management and organizational knowledge search.
  • Scale compute infrastructure across macOS, Windows, and Linux environments to support automated agents and engineers in building, testing, prototyping, and validating software.
  • Develop and improve job scheduling, resource leasing, and execution infrastructure to enable more flexible and efficient development and validation workflows.
  • Establish technical direction for developer experience initiatives, make sound architectural trade-offs, and raise engineering standards through design leadership, collaboration, and mentorship.
  • Partner with AI, infrastructure, and engineering teams to identify bottlenecks, prioritize improvements, and deliver maintainable tools that increase productivity across the organization.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience in developer tools, build environments, open-source developer tooling, low-level systems engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Strong software engineering skills and a demonstrated passion for building elegant, maintainable tools and systems that improve developer productivity.
  • Experience designing, building, or evolving developer infrastructure, automation platforms, build systems, or complex engineering workflows.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development, coding agents, automated code review, or AI-driven engineering workflows is valuable for contributing to the evolution of an AI-native development environment.
  • Ability to work across infrastructure, developer tooling, and AI-related systems, connecting multiple components into reliable and cohesive products.
  • Staff-level technical leadership, including the ability to define technical direction, make independent decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and influence engineering practices across teams without relying on formal reporting authority.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a product-oriented mindset, with the ability to balance developer experience, reliability, performance, scalability, and cost.
  • Comfort working in a high-trust, fast-moving environment with significant ambiguity, taking ownership of complex problems while actively seeking feedback and continuously improving solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability t…
