Job Description

Project Controls Manager

Location: Indianapolis

Employment Type: Full-time

A leading technical engineering and construction organisation is seeking an experienced Project Controls Manager to support the successful delivery of large-scale construction projects across North America.

The successful candidate will oversee project controls across the full project lifecycle, with responsibility for cost management, forecasting, scheduling, risk management and performance reporting. Working closely with project management, commercial and site teams, you will provide accurate project performance insights, identify potential risks and develop mitigation plans to support effective decision-making and ensure projects remain on track financially and operationally.

This role is suited to a project controls professional with a strong background in construction planning, cost control and forecasting, capable of managing project performance across complex, large-scale construction or design-build programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain project controls systems, integrating cost management, forecasting, scheduling and risk management activities.
  • Monitor project budgets, commitments, actual costs and expenditure forecasts, identifying variances and potential cost overruns.
  • Prepare and maintain cost forecasts, cash flow projections and financial performance reports throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee project schedules, monitor progress against baselines and assess the impact of delays on project costs and completion dates.
  • Work closely with project managers, planners, commercial teams and site personnel to ensure accurate reporting of project progress and performance.
  • Identify, assess and manage project risks, opportunities and potential impacts on cost, schedule and overall delivery.
  • Develop mitigation strategies, contingency plans and recovery measures to address cost overruns, schedule delays and emerging project risks.
  • Establish and maintain project baselines, progress measurement systems, change control processes and performance indicators.
  • Produce regular project controls reports, dashboards and management updates, providing clear visibility of cost, schedule, forecast and risk performance.
  • Support change management, variations, delay analysis and the assessment of their impact on project budgets and delivery timelines.
  • Analyse trends and performance data to identify potential issues early and recommend corrective actions.
  • Drive consistency and best practice across project controls processes, reporting standards and project governance.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years of experience in project controls, project planning, cost control or project management within construction or engineering environments.
  • Experience supporting large-scale construction, design-build or EPC projects, ideally across complex or mission-critical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of project cost control, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial performance reporting.
  • Experience developing, maintaining and analysing integrated project schedules, including critical path analysis and progress monitoring.
  • Understanding of project risk management, change control, contingency planning and mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 and project controls reporting tools; experience with cost management and forecasting software is advantageous.
  • Ability to analyse project data, identify performance trends and provide actionable recommendations to project leadership.
  • Strong understanding of project baselines, earned value management, cost and schedule variance analysis, and performance measurement.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management or a related technical discipline is preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as AACE CCP, PSP, PMI-SP or PMP are advantageous.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary and annual performance bonus eligibility.
  • Health and dental benefits.
  • Retirement savings plan.
  • Professional development and continuing education support.
