Job Description

About the nursery

Millie’s House Westminster is a beautifully refurbished 63-place nursery and pre-school set within a historic former church hall dating back to 1904, just moments from the Houses of Parliament. Caring for children aged 3 months to 5 years across four bright, airy, age-appropriate rooms, it’s a setting with real character and a truly unique location.

Our children regularly explore the best of central London, from St James’s Park (where they watch the King’s Horse Guards and spot the pelicans) to Tate Britain, the London Eye, Vauxhall City Farm and the river. Our approach is deeply child-led, built around each child’s interests and extended through rich resources, quality literature and hands-on exploration.

The setting is supported by a warm, stable and long-serving team, including colleagues who have been part of the nursery’s story for more than 15 years. We’re now looking for an inspiring Nursery Manager to lead this team into its next chapter.

The role

As Nursery Manager, you’ll have full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the nursery, leading on quality of care and education, safeguarding, staff development, occupancy and parent partnership. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, coaching and motivating a dedicated team, supported by an experienced Deputy Manager
  • Delivering outstanding child-led practice in line with the EYFS and keeping the setting inspection-ready for Ofsted
  • Acting as or overseeing the Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring robust safeguarding and safer recruitment practice
  • Building strong relationships with parents and the local community, and driving occupancy through great show-arounds and a strong reputation
  • Managing staffing, ratios, rotas and budgets to keep the nursery running smoothly and sustainably
  • Supporting staff supervision, appraisals, training and career progression
  • Working closely with your Development Manager and the wider group support team

What we’re looking for

  • A full and relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification or above (Level 5/6 or EYPS/EYTS desirable)
  • Proven experience as a Nursery Manager or an experienced Deputy ready to step up
  • Strong, current knowledge of the EYFS, Ofsted requirements and safeguarding legislation
  • A confident, approachable leader who sets high standards and brings out the best in their team
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A passion for child-led learning and outdoor, real-world experiences
  • Paediatric First Aid (or willingness to obtain)

What we offer

  • A competitive salary
  • 95% childcare discount for your own children
  • Enhanced DBS check funded by us
  • Ongoing training, CPD and leadership development
  • Support from an experienced group operations, quality and recruitment team
  • The chance to lead a characterful, well-established setting in the heart of Westminster
  • Excellent central London transport links
