Job Description

About Just Right Engineering

Just Right Engineering is a civil engineering consulting firm specializing in fiber optic infrastructure, telecommunications engineering, utility relocations, right-of-way permitting, and infrastructure coordination.

Our team develops engineering plans, permitting packages, and construction-related documentation for projects involving utilities, transportation agencies, municipalities, and telecommunications providers.

We value technical ability, attention to detail, ownership, accountability, and consistent follow-through.

Position Overview

We are seeking a technically capable Assistant Project Manager to support engineering production, project coordination, and deliverable completion.

This is a hands-on production and technical coordination role, not an administrative assistant position.

The Assistant Project Manager will spend a substantial portion of their time supporting engineering drawing production, preparing deliverables, incorporating revisions, coordinating CAD personnel, organizing project information, and helping Project Managers maintain production schedules.

The ideal candidate has a strong working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D, understands engineering production workflows, and can help junior staff produce accurate, complete deliverables.

A minimum of two (2) years of professional, hands-on Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is required.

Applicants must have direct experience creating, editing, or developing engineering drawings in Civil 3D.

Candidates must be comfortable:

  • Opening, navigating, editing, and organizing Civil 3D drawing files.
  • Working with layers, Xrefs, layouts, viewports, plotting, and drawing annotations.
  • Preparing and revising engineering plans, permit exhibits, and supporting drawings.
  • Incorporating redlines and reviewer comments into production drawings.
  • Reviewing drawings for drafting errors, inconsistencies, and missing information.
  • Following CAD templates, drawing standards, and file management procedures.
  • Understanding and working with applicable Civil 3D design objects and workflows.

Experience limited to basic AutoCAD, PDF markups, or coordinating with CAD personnel does not meet this requirement.

Applicants selected for interviews will be asked to demonstrate their Civil 3D skills in a practical technical exercise.

  • Review drawing sets for completeness, consistency, technical accuracy, and applicable CAD standards.
  • Assist in preparing final drawing packages and other technical deliverables.
  • Support junior CAD personnel through task-specific instruction, drawing review, and technical guidance.

Production Coordination

  • Coordinate engineering production activities from project intake through completion.
  • Help organize project requirements, available information, and production assignments.
  • Track drawing progress, revisions, outstanding tasks, and deliverable deadlines.
  • Identify missing project information and production bottlenecks.
  • Coordinate assignments among drafters, designers, field personnel, engineers, and Project Managers.
  • Ensure completed work is organized and ready for project management or engineering review.

Permitting and Jurisdictional Support

  • Prepare permit exhibits, applications, drawing packages, and required supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate with DOTs, municipalities, counties, railroads, utility companies, and other agencies.
  • Review agency comments and assist with preparing revised drawings and responses.
  • Track permit submissions, revisions, resubmittals, and approvals.
  • Research permitting requirements and communicate relevant findings to the Project Manager.

Quality Control and Documentation

  • Review engineering production deliverables for drawing errors, missing information, and consistency.
  • Verify that redlines and requested changes have been incorporated.
