Embedded Software Engineer

Embedded work of every kind fits this role: firmware, device drivers, real time systems, IoT devices, medical devices, vehicles, robotics and industrial controls. Firmware engineers, electrical engineers who write code, test and integration engineers, university lab staff and veterans with electronics backgrounds are all welcome.

You would

• Write and debug firmware for microcontrollers and processors
• Build drivers for sensors, radios, buses and networks
• Work on embedded Linux or a real time operating system
• Test code on real boards with debuggers and logic analyzers
• Set up hardware in the loop and automated regression tests
• Design the software for a sensor or controller, such as roadside traffic equipment

Required

• A few years writing embedded, firmware or low level software
• A degree in computer, electrical or software engineering, or equivalent experience
• You are a U.S. citizen or green card holder (lawful permanent resident)

Also valued, not required

• C, C++ or Rust
• FreeRTOS, Zephyr, VxWorks or embedded Linux
• Safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 62304 or DO-178C
• Connected vehicle, medical device, aerospace or defense products

Compensation and time

This part-time 1099 contract pays $65 to $105 an hour based on experience. Expect about 10 to 20 hours a week, and you can work from anywhere in the U.S.
