Software Engineering SMTS / LMTS - AI Core (REMOTE)

For our client, we are seeking a Software Engineering SMTS / LMTS - AI Core (REMOTE) to join the team of a leader in the Enterprise Technology space.

This role will shape foundational AI capabilities and the tooling that supports them across a production environment. You will partner closely with engineering stakeholders to improve retrieval, answer quality, and the reliability of AI-driven experiences. The position combines deep backend and AI systems work with technical leadership, influencing architecture, execution, and operational standards.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $172,500 – $260,100 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end retrieval initiatives, designing and operating systems for optimal content answering
• Drive the technical design of developer tooling for production agents, enhancing engineering efficiency
• Own and improve answer quality by diagnosing retrieval and generation issues
• Design content and data models for effective ingestion and retrieval of diverse data sources
• Establish safe practices for AI changes, including evaluation and monitoring protocols
• Set performance benchmarks for retrieval, indexing, and agent orchestration
• Ensure operational health and reliability of systems, participating in incident resolution

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of experience in production AI or backend systems with a focus on LLM applications
• Expertise in building retrieval systems using RAG and hybrid search techniques
• Proven ability to develop tooling for production agents, including multi-agent orchestration frameworks
• Experience managing platform initiatives from design to adoption, particularly in retrieval and indexing
• Strong technical leadership skills with a track record of influencing architecture and execution
• Proficiency in backend languages such as Ruby on Rails, Python, JavaScript, or Go, along with SQL experience
• Hands-on experience with the AI application lifecycle, including deployment and evaluation
