Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Java and Web Software Developer with at least five years of professional experience in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining web-based applications and software systems. The successful candidate will have strong Java programming and web development skills, with experience in developing secure, scalable, reliable, and high-performance applications.

The role involves developing backend services, web application interfaces, integrating APIs, working with databases, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain web-based applications and software systems using Java and related technologies.
• Develop backend services and business logic using Java, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot.
• Design, develop, and maintain responsive web application interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant web technologies.
• Develop, integrate, and maintain RESTful APIs and web services to support application functionality and communication between systems.
• Apply object-oriented programming principles, software design patterns, and coding best practices.
• Analyse business requirements and translate them into technical specifications, application designs, and software solutions.
• Develop and maintain database integrations using SQL and relational database technologies.
• Ensure web applications are responsive, accessible, secure, reliable, and compatible with supported browsers.
• Develop and execute unit, integration, and functional tests to maintain software quality and reliability.
• Identify, debug, troubleshoot, and resolve application defects, performance issues, and technical problems.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure compliance with coding standards and secure development practices.
• Collaborate with QA engineers, product teams, and DevOps professionals to deliver software projects effectively.
• Implement appropriate application security controls and data protection measures.
• Maintain, support, and enhance existing Java applications and web systems.
• Document application architecture, technical specifications, development processes, and system changes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of application performance, development practices, and software quality.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum of five years of professional experience in Java and web application development.
• Strong knowledge of Java programming, object-oriented programming, and core software engineering principles.
• Practical experience with Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Experience in web development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related technologies.
• Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs and web services.
• Knowledge of relational databases, SQL, and database integration.
• Experience with application testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and defect resolution.
• Understanding of web application security, data protection, and secure coding practices.
• Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
• Ability to analyse technical requirements and develop maintainable and scalable software solutions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with frontend frameworks or libraries such as Angular or React.
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with build tools such as Maven or Gradle.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Understanding of Agile or Scrum development methodologies.
• Experience with application monitoring, logging, and performance optimisation.

Working Hours

37.5 hours per week.
