Job Description
US/UK Tax Senior – Private Client (Cross-Border)
About the firm
Our client is a well-established boutique tax practice specialising in US and UK taxation for individuals, with a particular focus on US citizens living in the UK. They advise clients with complex, multi-jurisdictional affairs and are known for a personal, high-touch service that larger firms struggle to match. The team is small, close-knit and highly experienced, offering genuine exposure to senior advisers and a real say in how the practice grows.
They’re now looking for a Tax Senior to take ownership of a client portfolio, contribute to advisory work, and support the development of their junior team.
The role
This is a varied role covering compliance, cross-border advisory work, client management and team leadership. You’ll manage your own clients day to day, work closely with senior colleagues on planning and research, and act as a deputy to the Tax Team Lead.
What you’ll be doing
Tax compliance
- Managing the preparation and review of US and UK tax returns for individual clients, including Forms 1040 and 8938, FBARs and UK Self-Assessment
- Ensuring timely filing of returns, estimates and extensions for clients with complex, multi-jurisdictional obligations
- Leading the preparation of filings for clients with delinquent returns, including Streamlined Foreign and Domestic Offshore Procedures (SFOP/SDOP), Delinquent FBAR Submission Procedures and WDFs
- Preparing responses and documentation for enquiries from the IRS, HMRC and other authorities
Cross-border planning and advisory
- Supporting senior colleagues with research, consultations and onboarding of prospective clients
- Advising clients on tax-efficient structures, the tax implications of investments, and punitive tax regimes in the US and UK
- Drafting written memos on a range of tax matters, including UK residency under the Statutory Residence Test (SRT)
Client relationships
- Acting as the primary point of contact for your own portfolio of clients and handling all their tax-related queries
- Building strong, long-term client relationships that drive satisfaction and retention
Team leadership
- Supervising, mentoring and reviewing the work of junior team members
- Helping train the team on US and UK tax issues for US citizens resident in the UK
- Supporting the Tax Team Lead (across two tax teams) to build a high-performing team, and deputising in their absence
What they’re looking for
- Around 3+ years’ experience in tax, with a focus on US and UK individual taxation
- Strong knowledge of both the US and UK tax systems, including tax treaties and US expatriation rules
- A professional tax qualification such as EA (Enrolled Agent), ATT or CTA, or currently working towards one
- Familiarity with tax software such as ProSystem fx and/or CCH Axcess
Nice to have:
- Experience with US treatment of foreign companies (Form 5471, GILTI, Form 8832 elections)
About you
- Organised and accurate, with excellent attention to detail
- A clear communicator who can explain complex tax matters simply and concisely
- Comfortable managing multiple clients and deadlines in a busy environment
- A team player who enjoys working alongside other committed tax professionals
Pay: £50,000.00-£70,000.00 per year
Work Location: In person
