Yard Manager

Location: West Norwood, South London

Position: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £30,000 – £50,000 per annum (Depending on Experience) + Benefits

About the Client

Our client is one of London’s leading specialist access and temporary works providers. With an outstanding reputation across commercial, residential and high-profile developments, they deliver a complete range of services, including complex temporary scaffolding structures, passenger/goods hoists and powered access machinery.

Due to continuous growth, they are seeking an experienced and proactive Yard Manager to take ownership of their main operational hub in West Norwood.

The Role

As the Yard Manager, you will be the operational backbone of the depot. You will manage the day to day organisation, stock control, transport logistics and maintenance of all scaffolding materials, hoist systems and access equipment.

Working closely with Operations, Transport Managers and Site Supervisors, you will ensure equipment is inspected, maintained, dispatched and returned efficiently, safely and in full compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Yard & Fleet Management: Oversee daily yard operations, material handling, loading/unloading of Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles and equipment dispatch.
• Stock & Inventory Control: Maintain strict inventory control of scaffolding tubes, fittings, boards (FSC certified), hoists and auxiliary access equipment.
• Health, Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with HASWA, LOLER and PUWER regulations. Maintain clean, safe working environments for all yard staff, drivers and site crews.
• Maintenance & Quality Control: Perform routine inspections on returned kit, identifying damaged equipment (e.g., damaged timber boards, faulty hoist components) and coordinating repairs before reissue.
• Team Leadership: Manage, schedule and motivate yard operatives and forklift drivers to meet demanding delivery timelines.
• Logistics Coordination: Liaise directly with the Transport Manager and Site Supervisors to schedule efficient vehicle loading and site drop offs across Greater London.

Key Requirements & Experience

• Industry Experience: Proven experience as a Yard Manager, Yard Supervisor, or Senior Yard Hand within scaffolding, access platforms, hoists or heavy construction plant hire.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of scaffolding components, system scaffold, temporary roof systems or construction hoists.

Licenses & Qualifications:

• Valid Counterbalance Forklift License (Telehandler / Heavy Plant certification is a strong plus).
• IOSH or relevant Health & Safety certification preferred.
• CSCS / CISRS card background is highly desirable.
• Leadership & Communication: Confident communication skills with the ability to lead a fast paced team and communicate clearly with drivers and senior management.
• Location: Must be comfortably commuting distance to West Norwood .
