Job Description

Overview

Freelance to Founder is a business advice podcast for freelancers who want to build more profitable, sustainable businesses and ditch the feast-famine lifestyle.

We’re looking for a sharp, engaging host and producer to take the reins of the show. You’ll host conversations with freelancers who call in for advice, ask the right questions to uncover the real problem, and help callers find practical ways to grow their businesses.

This isn’t a traditional interview show. Episodes revolve around real freelancers, real business challenges, and actionable advice. You’ll need to think on your feet, connect with callers, and make complex business problems feel approachable and solvable.

You’ll also own the production process, from developing episode ideas and coordinating guest co-hosts to editing episodes and getting them ready to publish.

The ideal candidate is a natural conversationalist who understands freelancing, entrepreneurship, and the challenges of running a service-based business. You don’t need to be a celebrity or a guru, but you do need the confidence to lead a conversation, the curiosity to ask great questions, and the judgment to help people work through difficult business decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Host the show. Lead engaging, conversational episodes with freelancers who call in seeking advice about their businesses.
  • Guide callers toward solutions. Ask insightful follow-up questions, identify the underlying challenges, and help callers leave with practical, actionable next steps.
  • Bring business savvy to the conversation. Discuss topics like finding clients, pricing services, sales, marketing, positioning, managing cash flow, and growing a freelance business.
  • Make every episode compelling. Keep conversations focused, natural, and entertaining while making sure listeners walk away with useful insights.
  • Coordinate guest co-hosts. Identify, schedule, and prepare guest co-hosts who bring relevant expertise and fresh perspectives to the show.
  • Own podcast production. Manage recording, audio editing, sound quality, episode assembly, and final production.
  • Develop episode ideas. Spot recurring freelancer challenges, identify timely topics, and help shape episodes that serve the audience.
  • Manage the publishing workflow. Prepare episodes for release, coordinate show notes and titles, and ensure each episode is published accurately and on schedule.
  • Contribute to audience growth. Look for ways to improve episode quality, listener engagement, discoverability, and the show’s overall reach.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong hosting and interviewing skills. You’re comfortable leading conversations, thinking on your feet, and making callers feel heard without letting conversations lose focus.
  • A genuine understanding of freelancing. You understand the realities of running a freelance or service-based business, including the challenges of getting clients, setting prices, selling services, and managing inconsistent income.
  • Practical business judgment. You can help people think through business problems, challenge assumptions constructively, and guide conversations toward useful solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills. You’re articulate, personable, curious, and able to explain complicated ideas in plain English.
  • Podcast production experience. You can independently record, edit, and produce polished audio episodes using tools such as Descript, Audacity, Adobe Audition, or similar software.
  • Strong editorial instincts. You know how to recognize an interesting story, ask a better question, cut unnecessary tangents, and keep an episode moving.
  • Reliable project management. You can coordinate recordings, manage deadlines, and keep a consistent publishing schedule.
  • A listener-first mindset. You care more about helping the audience than hearing yourself talk. You’re willing to challenge a caller when necessary while remaining empathetic and constructive.

Nice to Have

  • Experience hosting a business, entrepreneurship, personal finance, or advice-oriented podcast.
  • Firsthand experience as a freelancer, consultant, agency owner, or other independent service provider.
  • Experience working with remote guests and recording interviews online.
  • Familiarity with podcast distribution, SEO, show notes, and audience growth strategies.
  • Experience developing a podcast’s format, improving its performance, and iden…
