Job Description
NOW HIRING: Revit / AutoCAD Design Assistant
Innovative Foodservice Group (IFG)
Position: Part-Time / Full-Time / Internship Opportunities
Experience Level: College Student, Recent Graduate, or Entry-Level
Industry: Commercial Foodservice Design & Consulting
Location: Remote Opportunities Available
Compensation: Based on Experience and Qualifications
About the Opportunity
Innovative Foodservice Group (IFG) is seeking a motivated college student, recent graduate, or entry-level designer with working knowledge of Autodesk Revit to assist our commercial foodservice design team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone studying architecture, engineering, construction technology, or computer-aided design who wants to gain real-world experience working on commercial kitchens, restaurants, hospitality facilities, and other foodservice projects.
Bonus points if you’ve ever worked in a restaurant! Understanding how a commercial kitchen operates, even from working as a server, cook, dishwasher, or kitchen assistant, can be extremely valuable in this position.
What You’ll Be Doing
Our senior foodservice designers primarily develop commercial kitchen layouts using AutoCAD. Your primary responsibility will be to take these existing designs and incorporate them into Revit models for coordination with architectural teams.
You will not be expected to design commercial kitchens from scratch. Our experienced designers provide the layouts, equipment selections, and design direction.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Translating existing AutoCAD foodservice layouts into Revit.
- Utilizing existing Revit templates, established project standards, and equipment families.
- Inserting and positioning commercial foodservice equipment using existing KCL foodservice equipment libraries and Revit families.
- Creating and maintaining foodservice equipment layouts within architectural Revit models.
- Providing properly coordinated Revit equipment elements to architects so they can incorporate them into their building models, renderings, and documentation.
- Working directly with senior AutoCAD designers to ensure equipment placement, dimensions, and layouts are accurately represented.
- Assisting with revisions, drawing coordination, and model updates.
- Supporting plumbing, electrical, and mechanical coordination drawings, primarily in AutoCAD, with the ability to prepare these drawings in Revit when required by the project.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit.
- Ability to understand and interpret architectural or AutoCAD drawings.
- Basic understanding of building layouts, dimensions, and drawing coordination.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Willingness to learn commercial foodservice design and equipment requirements.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with experienced designers and architects.
Preferred, But Not Required:
- AutoCAD experience.
- Familiarity with Revit families, templates, and linked CAD files.
- Experience using KCL or other manufacturer equipment libraries.
- Previous restaurant, commercial kitchen, hospitality, or foodservice experience.
- Familiarity with plumbing, electrical, or mechanical construction drawings.
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an architecture, engineering, CAD, BIM, or construction-related program.
Why This Is a Great Opportunity
This position is ideal for someone who knows Revit but hasn’t yet had the opportunity to apply those skills to real-world commercial projects.
We already have experienced foodservice designers, established equipment layouts, and access to equipment libraries. We need someone who understands how to take that information and make it work in Revit.
You won’t be starting from a blank sheet or expected to know everything about commercial kitchen design on day one.
You’ll gain hands-on experience with:
- Real commercial restaurant and hospitality projects.
- Architectural BIM coordination.
- Commercial kitchen equipment layouts.
- AutoCAD-to-Revit workflows.
- Plumbing, electrical, and mechanical design coordination.
- Working alongside experienced industry professionals.
The Ideal Candidate
You might be a great fit if you’re a college student who enjoys working in Revit, has some AutoCAD knowledge, and perhaps worked in a restaurant while attending school.
