Duration: Initially 4-6 weeks

The Opportunity

Our client is an established electrical engineering company based in Peterborough working across substations, grid connections and high-voltage systems. They are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to support various nationwide power generation and electrical projects across the UK.

You’ll be responsible for electrical studies, secondary design work and coordinating with DNOs, equipment manufacturers and other engineering teams.

The company is also starting to introduce AI agents into its internal processes, so an interest in AI and automation would be a real bonus.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carrying out load flow, short-circuit and protection coordination studies.
  • Working on P28, P29 and G5 studies.
  • Producing and reviewing secondary electrical designs, schematics and technical drawings.
  • Coordinating with DNOs and switchgear suppliers such as ABB, Siemens and Schneider.
  • Supporting protection, control and signalling systems.
  • Updating technical drawings and preparing as-built documentation.

What We’re Looking For

  • 2-3+ years of experience in electrical design or power systems engineering.
  • Experience with secondary electrical design, ideally involving substations or grid connections.
  • Knowledge of protection studies, load flow and short-circuit calculations.
  • Familiarity with UK electrical standards, including P28, P29 and G5.
  • Experience with software such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, DIgSILENT PowerFactory or similar.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate with engineering teams.

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with UK DNOs and high-voltage infrastructure.
  • An interest in AI, automation or AI agents, particularly within engineering workflows.
