About the Role

Alignerr is seeking Back End Developers to build and optimize the server-side systems that support AI products. The work includes developing APIs, data pipelines, microservices, and infrastructure for AI training and inference workloads. Developers will work with distributed teams of engineers, researchers, and product leads while managing task-based and project-based assignments independently.

This is a remote, hourly contract role offering flexible scheduling and the potential for continued work as new projects become available.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain reliable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines.
• Build scalable, high-performance server-side systems to support AI training and inference workloads.
• Write clean, well-documented, testable code that follows software engineering best practices.
• Integrate backend services with databases, message queues, cloud platforms, and third-party APIs.
• Monitor and optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability as usage grows.
• Collaborate asynchronously with engineers, researchers, and product leads across distributed teams.
• Troubleshoot production issues, conduct code reviews, and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Complete task-based and project-based assignments independently while managing work effectively.
• Document technical decisions and communicate clearly with team members across time zones.

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency in at least one backend programming language, such as Python, Go, Java, Node.js, Rust, or a comparable language.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
• Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases, such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Redis.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, including AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, including the ability to investigate complex systems independently.
• Ability to work reliably and manage assignments without close supervision.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for collaborating across distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing infrastructure for machine learning or AI systems.
• Familiarity with data processing frameworks such as Apache Kafka, Spark, or Airflow.
• Experience with performance optimization, caching strategies, or high-throughput systems.
• Knowledge of authentication, authorization, and software security best practices.
• Experience with serverless architectures or event-driven design patterns.
• Contributions to open-source projects or a strong portfolio of personal or professional software development work.

Location and Work Arrangement

Remote. The role offers flexible scheduling, with developers able to set their own working hours and work from different locations.

Employment Type and Commitment

Hourly contract.

Expected commitment: 10–40 hours per week.
