As part of Walmart Global Tech, our team builds next-generation products and platforms to solve complex enterprise problems at Walmart scale. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer who can provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on in designing and building scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-based solutions.

What Youll Do:

• Lead the architecture, design, and development of scalable enterprise applications and platforms .
• Provide technical direction for complex initiatives spanning multiple applications and engineering teams.
• Partner with Product, Business, and Engineering teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Drive architecture/design and code reviews , evaluating trade-offs across scalability, performance, security, and reliability.
• Design and build backend services using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, and distributed system patterns , with React/Node.js for end-to-end solutions where needed.
• Build reusable frameworks, APIs, and platform capabilities that can be leveraged across teams.
• Drive engineering best practices around code quality, testing, security, observability, CI/CD, and operational excellence .
• Troubleshoot complex technical and production issues and drive long-term solutions.
• Mentor engineers and raise the engineering bar through design reviews, code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.

What Youll Bring:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale enterprise applications and distributed systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, and distributed systems .
• Experience with React, TypeScript, Node.js and/or NestJS is preferred.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, system design, and design patterns .
• Experience designing systems for scalability, high availability, resiliency, security, and performance .
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, GCP, or AWS , along with CI/CD, DevOps, logging, metrics, and observability.
• Experience with databases, data modeling, caching, and performance optimization.
• Strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to influence across teams.

Additional Experience

The following experience would be an added advantage:

• Experience designing and building ETL/ELT pipelines , including batch and real-time data processing solutions.
• Experience working with data lakes and data warehouses , including data modeling, schema design, partitioning, and query/performance optimization.
• Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Apache Airflow/Astronomer , including DAG development, scheduling, monitoring, and pipeline reliability.
• Experience building applications and APIs that integrate with large-scale enterprise data platforms .
• Working knowledge of Python and modern data processing technologies.
• Exposure to Generative AI, LLM-based applications, RAG, information retrieval, or machine learning .
• Experience exploring and applying AI-assisted engineering and automation to improve developer productivity, software quality, and operational efficiency.
