Job Description
About Framework Island
Framework Island builds knowledge infrastructure for the AI era.
We build AI-native software companies through our venture studio and help existing companies become AI-native through Groundwork. Our work sits at the intersection of software, AI, operations, and product.
We’re looking for a part-time AI Product Engineer who is excited about AI-native companies and wants to work across a growing portfolio of products and client implementations.
The Role
This is a hands-on technical role supporting the ongoing development and maintenance of Framework Island’s products and client projects.
You’ll work closely with our VP of Engineering on technical direction, code review, architecture, and development practices, while reporting directly to our VP of Operations, who will manage your priorities, projects, workload, and day-to-day responsibilities.
The role is designed for someone who can operate independently on smaller technical tasks while having a senior engineering leader available to learn from and collaborate with.
You’ll become an important technical layer across our portfolio — helping us keep products running smoothly, respond to client needs, and continuously improve the software we’ve built. At times, you’ll also join client conversations as the technical voice on the team.
What You’ll Do
Development & Maintenance
- Fix small bugs and technical issues across existing applications
- Implement small product upgrades and feature requests from clients
- Make improvements to existing applications and codebases
- Troubleshoot issues and identify practical solutions
- Test new features and fixes before they reach clients
- Help maintain applications after launch
Code Review & Technical Quality
- Conduct code reviews across projects
- Identify bugs, technical debt, security concerns, and opportunities for improvement
- Provide thoughtful feedback on code quality and maintainability
- Follow and help maintain our engineering standards
- Work with the VP of Engineering on technical decisions and best practices
AI-Native Development
- Use AI coding tools as part of your everyday workflow
- Explore new AI development tools, models, and workflows
- Help us continuously improve how we build software with AI
- Contribute to the development of AI-native products and companies
Client Collaboration
- Join client calls when technical input is needed
- Explain technical issues, fixes, and feature updates in clear, non-technical language
- Gather technical requirements and clarify client requests before building
- Walk clients through new features or changes to their applications
- Represent Framework Island professionally as part of the client-facing team
Cross-Project Support
- Work across multiple Framework Island products and client projects
- Jump between different codebases and technology stacks
- Help the team respond quickly to technical issues and client requests
- Collaborate with operations, product, and engineering
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is:
- US-based
- A capable software engineer with experience working in existing codebases
- Comfortable conducting code reviews
- Able to independently diagnose and fix smaller bugs
- Comfortable implementing feature updates and product improvements
- Detail-oriented and quality-conscious
- Comfortable working across multiple projects
- A strong problem solver who doesn’t need every task fully prescribed
- A clear communicator who can explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Comfortable speaking with clients about technical topics
- Curious and eager to learn
- Genuinely excited about AI
- Excited about the idea of building AI-native companies, not just adding AI features to traditional software
- Comfortable incorporating AI tools into your development workflow
You Don’t Need to Know Everything
We’re particularly interested in someone who has a strong technical foundation and a willingness to learn.
You’ll have the opportunity to work directly with our VP of Engineering, gaining exposure to higher-level architecture, technical decision-making, and how we build AI-native software at scale.
You should be comfortable saying “I don’t know yet, but I’ll figure it out.”
What You’ll Get
- $4,000/month
- Part-time, US-based remote position
- Direct management from our VP of Operations
- Close collaboration and mentorship from our VP of Engineering
- Exposure to m…
