Backend Developer

About the job

We’re looking for a strong Backend Developer who can independently own, maintain, and scale our production backend systems. Our applications handle real-time communication, digital transactions, wallet systems, and subscription-based payments.

We need someone with strong backend fundamentals and hands-on experience in payment gateway integrations, recurring subscriptions, UPI AutoPay, webhooks, and transaction management.

This is an ownership-driven role where you’ll work directly on live production systems and solve critical backend challenges.

What You’ll Do

Backend Development & Architecture

• Build, maintain, and optimize Node.js and Express.js backend services.
• Develop scalable REST APIs and manage MongoDB/Mongoose databases.
• Maintain WebSocket/Socket.io real-time communication.
• Work with Redis for caching, queues, and background processing.
• Optimize database queries, API performance, and backend scalability.

Payments & Subscription Management (Critical)

• Integrate and manage payment gateways including Juspay, Cashfree, Razorpay, PhonePe, or similar providers.
• Build and maintain UPI AutoPay and recurring subscription flows.
• Handle mandate registration, activation, recurring debits, renewals, cancellations, and failures.
• Implement secure payment webhooks and server-to-server payment verification.
• Manage payment status synchronization, transaction reconciliation, and settlement-related workflows.
• Handle failed payments, retries, duplicate transactions, and subscription lifecycle events.
• Build reliable wallet, ledger, and transaction management systems.
• Debug payment gateway issues and coordinate with payment provider technical teams.

Production & Infrastructure

• Independently manage backend deployments and production issues.
• Monitor server performance, logs, APIs, and application health.
• Debug and resolve critical production issues.
• Improve application reliability, security, and error handling.
• Work with AWS/GCP or similar infrastructure.
• Take ownership of existing production codebases and improve system stability.

Must Have

• 2+ years of hands-on Node.js and Express.js development experience.
• Strong understanding of MongoDB, Mongoose, REST APIs, and backend architecture.
• Practical experience integrating payment gateways and handling production transactions.
• Experience with recurring subscriptions, UPI AutoPay, mandates, or similar automated billing systems.
• Strong knowledge of webhooks, payment verification, asynchronous processing, and idempotency.
• Experience with Redis and WebSockets/Socket.io.
• Understanding of authentication, authorization, and API security.
• Ability to independently debug production issues.
• Comfortable working with existing production codebases.

Good to Have

• Direct experience with Juspay, Cashfree, or Razorpay subscriptions.
• Experience with UPI mandates and recurring billing.
• Knowledge of payment reconciliation, refunds, settlements, and ledger systems.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience with high-concurrency or real-time applications.
• Familiarity with background jobs, message queues, and load testing.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
