Role Description

This is a full-time, remote role for a Software Engineer who will design, build, and maintain high-quality software across the full development lifecycle. The Software Engineer will work closely with architects, product managers, and fellow developers to turn requirements into well-tested, production-ready features. Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing new functionality, refactoring and improving existing code, writing unit and integration tests, participating in code reviews, and troubleshooting and resolving technical issues. The role also includes contributing to technical planning, following established architectural standards and design patterns, and helping drive continuous improvement in development practices and code quality.

Qualifications

Strong proficiency in software development, with hands-on experience in one or more modern programming languages and frameworks.

Solid understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, and principles for writing clean, modular, and maintainable code.

Experience building and consuming APIs, and working with relational and/or NoSQL databases.

Familiarity with architectural approaches such as DDD, CQRS, microservices, or distributed systems.

Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and DevOps practices such as CI/CD, source control workflows, and automated testing.

Commitment to quality, including thorough testing, attention to edge cases and failure paths, and constructive participation in code reviews.

Ability to communicate clearly, work independently in a remote environment, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants for implementation, refactoring, debugging, and test creation, with a disciplined review process that prioritizes robust code and thorough edge-case coverage over speed. Ability to apply AI tools to technical planning, such as breaking down user stories into implementation plans.

Because Magellan Innovations supports NASA and other organizations in the space industry, this position is open only to candidates residing in the United States. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis without the need for current or future employment visa sponsorship. Magellan Innovations is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas for this position.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
