Freelance Python Developer: AI Compliance Checker for Marketing Designs

About the Project

We run direct-mail marketing campaigns for health and wellness products in the US market. Every design (magalogs, letters, order forms, inserts) has to be checked against our brand and design checklist and against FDA marketing regulations before it goes to print. We are looking for a developer to build an internal tool that automates this review.

Users will upload a design file, and the tool will extract its text and layout, compare it against our rules, and return a clear compliance report with flagged issues and improvement suggestions.

Scope of Work

• Convert our FDA guideline document and internal design checklist (Excel) into a structured, rule-based format (e.g. JSON)
• Build a simple internal web interface where users upload design files (PDF, PNG, JPG)
• Extract all text and visual elements from uploaded files using an AI vision model (e.g. OpenAI GPT-4o or equivalent)
• Validate each design against the rules, including:
• Layout and print specs (page size, bleed, image resolution, readability)
• Product details (product name, ingredients, pill count, pricing, phone number, offer and SKU codes)
• Required disclaimers (FDA, testimonial, gift) and legally risky or unsupported claims
• Grammar, typos, and unclear messaging
• Generate a compliance report showing pass/fail per rule, risks found, and suggested improvements, with references to the rule or source behind each flag
• Log every check (timestamp, file, issues found, rules matched) so past reviews can be reopened and audited
• Deploy the tool within our internal environment, with API keys and data handled securely
• Test the full flow and deliver user documentation and a short training session

Requirements

• Strong Python experience, with at least one shipped application in production
• Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs, specifically vision models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or similar)
• Experience with PDF and image processing (text extraction, layout analysis, OCR)
• Ability to build a simple, clean upload interface (Streamlit, Flask, FastAPI, or similar)
• Experience designing rule-based or structured validation logic
• Understanding of secure deployment and handling of API credentials
• Fluent written English and clear, regular progress updates
• Experience with US marketing compliance, FDA or FTC rules, or regulated industries (supplements, health, pharma) is a strong plus
