Job Description
SG Civil Engineering Ltd is an established civil engineering and groundworks contractor, delivering large commercial projects across the UK. Based in Wirral, we pride ourselves on the quality of our work, delivering projects on time and maintaining a reputation built on trust, reliability and a highly skilled workforce.
Due to continued expansion and growth, we are looking for two enthusiastic, organised and approachable Part-Time Administrators to join our small office team.
These are varied and interesting roles, ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, is happy to get involved in a wide range of tasks and can adapt to the changing needs of a busy construction business.
Previous construction industry experience is not required. Office administration experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential, as training and support will be provided. The most important qualities are a willingness to learn, the ability to pick up new skills quickly and a positive attitude towards working as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
The roles will involve a variety of administrative and support duties, including:
- Answering telephone calls and dealing with enquiries in a professional and friendly manner.
- Communicating with site workers, managers, suppliers and other members of the team.
- Providing general administrative support to the office and site teams.
- Supporting the Office Manager with ad hoc tasks and project work.
- Helping to manage and maintain the company HR portal, keeping employee information and records up to date and assisting with the onboarding of new workers.
- Assisting with occupational health requirements, coordinating training bookings and maintaining training records.
- Assisting with company vehicle and insurance administration.
- Ordering materials, plant equipment and other items required by our construction sites.
- Using Microsoft Word, Excel and other office applications for general administration.
- Maintaining accurate records, updating information and ensuring documentation is kept organised.
As we are a small office team, a flexible approach is essential. You will need to be comfortable taking on different tasks, managing changing priorities and helping wherever needed.
Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone who:
- Has good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is approachable, friendly and confident dealing with people at all levels, from site operatives to senior management.
- Has some experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Is organised, reliable and able to manage a variety of tasks.
- Has a positive, practical attitude and is keen to learn new skills.
- Can work independently when required, while also being a supportive team player.
- Is confident speaking to people on the telephone and communicating professionally.
- Is comfortable using online systems and maintaining accurate records, or is willing to learn.
- Has good time management skills and can manage competing priorities.
- Can remain calm and work effectively under pressure.
Applicants should be educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
Previous construction or HR administration experience is an advantage, but not essential. Training will be provided for the right candidates.
What We Offer
- A friendly and supportive small-team working environment.
- A varied role where no two days are necessarily the same.
- Training and support to help you develop your skills.
- The opportunity to gain experience within the construction industry and a busy office environment.
- Some flexibility to work from home and, on occasion, swap working hours by agreement.
- 5 weeks’ annual leave (pro rata for part-time hours), plus bank holidays.
- Life assurance.

- Morning Administrator: 20 hours a week - Monday to Friday, 8:00am–12 noon.
- Afternoon Administrator: 20 hours a week - Monday to Thursday, 12 noon–5:00pm.
Please clearly state in your application which position and working hours you would prefer.
