Job Description
About the Company
Curio, Ascendum’s digital studio, works on digital design projects that bring together user needs, business goals, and practical implementation. The team values thoughtful design, clear communication, collaboration, and consistent delivery in demanding enterprise environments.
About the Role
The Senior UI/UX Designer will lead design work across complex, strategic projects, helping establish visual direction, strengthen design systems, and deliver accessible, user-centered digital experiences. This role combines hands-on interface design with design leadership, client communication, mentoring, and involvement in project planning and scoping.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, making informed design decisions, presenting concepts to clients and stakeholders, and translating complex subject matter into clear visual experiences. You’ll also mentor other UI designers, lead design reviews, and provide constructive feedback while maintaining high standards across projects.
This is a long-term contract starting on a 1099 basis, with the potential for conversion. The position is remote and requires working from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
Key Responsibilities
•Mentor other UI designers and provide constructive guidance to support design quality and professional development.
•Establish visual direction for design rollouts and contribute to the strategic vision for the user experience.
•Develop, maintain, and improve design systems, style guides, and reusable design components.
•Advocate for user-centered design principles when working with clients and internal teams.
•Lead design reviews, evaluate design work, and provide clear, actionable feedback.
•Take ownership of complex and strategic projects, contributing to project planning and scope definition.
•Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, interface mockups, and developer specifications.
•Conduct user research, evaluate user feedback, and use findings to inform design decisions.
•Translate business requirements, user needs, and feedback into practical, intuitive design solutions.
•Build Figma components and integrate them into existing design systems.
•Apply Apple Human Interface Guidelines, Google Material Design principles, web design best practices, and WCAG accessibility standards.
•Maintain design consistency, usability, and accessibility across digital platforms.
•Present design concepts and explain design methodologies to clients and stakeholders.
•Communicate with clients to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and incorporate feedback from clients and senior team members.
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs are feasible and align with project goals and deadlines.
•Follow Curio’s Figma etiquette requirements across all design files.
Required Skills & Qualifications
•Advanced knowledge of Figma, including components, design systems, and related design concepts.
•Strong understanding of Apple Human Interface Guidelines and Google Material Design.
•Knowledge of web design best practices, usability principles, and WCAG accessibility standards.
•Experience developing and maintaining design systems, style guides, and consistent interface patterns.
•Ability to create high-quality user flows, wireframes, prototypes, mockups, and developer specifications.
•Strong design presentation and client communication skills.
•Ability to understand complex business and user problems rather than simply responding to design requests.
•Confidence in explaining and defending design decisions while remaining open to feedback.
•Ability to work independently, interpret direction, ask relevant questions, and determine the best way to execute assigned work.
•Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, self-motivation, and proactive working habits.
•Ability to learn complex subject matter and communicate it through clear visual experiences.
•Consistent delivery of high-quality work in a demanding enterprise environment.
